Key to success at BYU is to lock up the top 1-2 LDS QBs every couple of years. From there, gotta get playmakers around them. We seem to have the QB issue sorted, not gotta get the playmakers. Davonte Neal types. Need one of those every 2 years, minimum.
You need one of those at every position every year. Preferably two. Think HC, injury, homesickness, flamers, did I mention HC, missions, academic casualties, and whatever I left out - oh early NFL defections - I knew there was something else. Oh - attitude - OC - clean out the QB's locker type things. Entitlement issues.
The BYU Basketball team reminded us of what we have been reminded of before - you need depth to win Championships because stuff happens and a rising tide actually struggles to raise broken boats with large leaks.
For example - this year at WR - we have Ross Apo whom we assume will be all everything - like we assumed last year - but is one broken finger away form not being on the field and who surprisingly got run down from behind by a linebacker in Spring drills and who may have run into a fence during practice or was that Hoffman? We have Jacobsen who was a stud as a freshman and then kind of disappeared and may be back or not. And then we have Hoffman. Luckily, I read that there may be a 4th receiver who is ahead of Drew Phillips at the moment. Although all of this compares quite nicely with last year - we should have this kind of a stable of horses or better every year because - stuff hapens.
