Questions About Recruiting

Two topics that I question:



1 - In all sincerity (and truthfulness for those who know), have recruit's abilities really been minimized because they committed to BYU? If actually so, was that because of the non-AQ conference, or pure distain or disrespect for BYU itself?



2 - Any way this is going to change now that we go independent? There has been much talk on this board about ESPN taking a professional interest in BYU looking good. If ESPN actually has the ability, will they put their mighty pressure on the recruiting entities to be more honest - or even.....kind.... ;) - in the way they rate BYU prospects? If ESPN is truly invested in BYU doing well (so they can make $$), it seems it would be in their interest for BYU to get positive attention during the recruiting season as well! 8)

They have no power currently over Rivals or Scout, so I'd have to say the answer to that question is no, ESPN will not be able to influence that even if they wanted to.

What if they televised our signing day or video clips of our recruits. I don't expect it but it would help talk us and them up.

I expect espn to start putting BYU in the top 20 recruiting classes starting 2012. If they can land two or more of those 4 or 5 star recruits on the list then top 15.

I guess my concern, and others, with the recruiting services is that teams like Notre Dame consistently have 'better' recruiting classes but consistently worse teams/records than BYU. To me, that fact lends little credibility to these services and their ranking of athletes. I think any time a student/athlete commits early to a school, the services pull back a little bit and don't look at them much anymore (because what's the point? they're already committed to a program so who cares how good they are?) and BYU consistently gets kids to commit early, or at least tries to so BYU's recruits are ranked lower than they probably should be. I don't know that its anything against BYU necessarily but there has to be a little bit of a perception issue with 'smaller' schools. I don't have any proof (and who will except someone who works for the services?) but that is two cents.

I believe we are going to see a significant shift in recruiting analysis/rankings, etc. Just as when the mainstream media are all completely brainwashed about global warming, and just don't give print to any contrary view, thus most people believe global warming is real; so with BYU recruiting. When ESPN (and others) start talking more about BYU and BYU recruits, and giving them some high praise, then yes, every ranking service is going to do the same. It's the sheep/herd mentality. There aren't enough independent thinkers out there in the media to even talk about.



And though many believe BYU's move to independence is a big mistake, I believe they don't know the issues, and most fail to understand the underlying history and oppression BYU experienced under the MWC thumb. I think BYU will explode in the sports media world this next year, especially if BYU football knocks off Miss and Texas, then clobbers Utah. With ESPN buzzing about BYU football, BYU fans are going to think they have died and gone to heaven--if only in a relative sense to what we have experienced the past few years.



And here's my final prediction, the MWC will die. Within two or three years, it will be gone, as will the WAC. It is painful for schools to be jerked around by shifting conferences, conferences disappearing, schools scrambling to find a conference to join, etc. But BYU will be above that fray and will not have to even think about it ever again; talk about deliverance!
