Football Powers want BYU on their Sched.

If we can just get any of them to come to Provo we'll be in good shape.

Pretty awesome too that Elder Oaks had the inspiration to give Bronco a call when he most needed an arm around the shoulder and a word of encouragement.

I gotta say I love what Bronco has done around here.

Neutral site games in "great" venues like Sodlier Field or Yankee Stadium are awesome. But we need some of those great games at home as well. Almost all of the big games that have been announced since independence have been road or neutral games.



I get that ESPN is helping to broker many of these, but we need to start getting teams to come to Provo. BYU fans will only tolerate home games vs Idaho St, Utah St, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico St, etc. while all the good games are away from home.

But what they are not looking to do is come to Provo. It seems pretty evident that it is still going to be a substantial challenge to get teams to Provo judging by most of the deals that have been struck thus far.

If these calls are all for us to play at their place,and nuetral field, consider me not impressed. The Notre Dame deal helped, but was a bit of a sell out. Same withTexas. We can not go 2 for 1 with so many big names only to fill our schedule with weaklings at home. Home and homes with a 3rd nuetral site is what we nee dto shoot for. IF we want to consider ourselves a big player, we need to act like it.

Sounds like those programs only wanted to play neutral site games. If they are really neutral site I'm up for that. If they are neutral site games 25 miles from another teams campus, it puts BYU at a huge disadvantage. I wonder if he mentioned how many neutral site games per year they are considering. The NCAA only mandates 5 home games per year.



Otherwise I liked the 2 top ten match up, 3 BCS teams and 7 intriguing match-up plan.



BTW Navy doesn't have any open slots until 2015, Army on the other hand, has availability starting 2013. I don't think BYU should try for those games (or AF) anyway but if they are, I see Army happening sooner.

I live in SoCal, but will move to Virginia this summer, so I am thinking maybe a little different. I was impressed with how many BYU fans showed up to Basketball games this year.

I wonder if the powers that be are making sure that "nuetral feilds" are very close to large LDS populations? That way BYU fans will likely outnumber the other team's contingent, and BYU fans who live outside of Utah can see a great game live!

I know I'll try to get to anything in the East/Northeast

I agree. I am certainly excited to drive just a few hours to watch the game at Ole Miss. I don't think we can demand home and homes until we have put together a few good seasons. As much as I am a die hard fan, East of the Mississippi, BYU is not even an afterthought--although I think the Basketball team has raised awareness this year. I have gotten lots of positive comments about Jimmer around here.



My point is, acting like a big shot before you have the recent pedigree to back it up isn't going to get us anywhere. Playing these neutral site games, beating these teams on the road, and ending up highly ranked a couple of years should do the trick to earn the respect. People wanted to see the Jimmer show. In fact, didn't one station exercise its rights (TNT or TBS) to steal the game from CBS. If BYU starts competing at the elite level, it will garner the same kind of demand from the fans, and respect from other teams. I think their own fans would not mind an early fall game in Provo. It is a beautiful time of year to visit the campus. I know Virginia fans were impressed when they came in 2000 (?).

That's my feelings exactly, but I fear that even ESPN will not be able to get many top tier teams to Provo. That is the only reason that we really ever should consider going to a conference like the Big Twelve if we were ever offered. It just seems the reality and until we have the TV and fan power anywhere near Notre Dame, it's just something that I don't know that we can do much about.

Neutral site games are all the rage now, but I think BYU can get the big boys in Provo. Miami, Penn State, Notre Dame, USC, Texas A&M, have all come to Provo when they were on top of the College Football World. No reason that teams should not agree to play in Provo, especially if they are this excited about a neutral site game.

I'd like to start seeing some of these phone calls turn into signed deals. Yea the fact they call us is great. . . so what happened after that. . . :whistle:

Agreed, but in another part of that same post Bronco was quoted saying that the 2011 schedule has problems, 2012 will be a little better, and that the schedule should be like what we want by 2013...just in time for Jake's senior season!

Seeing some of the signed deals that have recently taken place if I were an AD, I'd be calling Holmoe too. You can probably get a great deal.



Texas- 2 for 1 in favor of Texas

Notre Dame- two 2 for 1s in favor of ND including the first two games at ND.

TCU- One and done at Cowboys Stadium

West Virginia- One and done at Fed Ex Field

Ole Miss- One and done in Oxford.



Are Georgia Tech fans upset that they couldn't get over on Holmoe like every other school has?

The first big name team Holmoe has signed to play in Provo is Texas, in 2013. That's 9 years after he took the job. The next one is Notre Dame, earliest game in Provo would be 2014, but probably later than that.
