Jimmer Engaged?

Ok, so I know it's stupid relief society gossip, but the twitter feed is telling me that Jimmer is engaged. Timing seems right to me, finish basketball season, almost done with school, just about to bring in some big money, might as well pop the question, right? Anyway, congrats to Jimmer, I highly recommend the married life!

I thought he might declare for his mission after Elder Neal L. Anderson's thinly veiled dig at BYU basketball players not serving missions.

I don't mean to sound jaded, but Jimmer is about to be a very rich man. He should be consulting with a lawyer for a prenuptial. I know he and his girlfriend have been together for several years, but no one intends to get divorced and life happens and money changes a lot of things.

Jimmer needs to enjoy the married life, but he also needs to be smart.

If the reports that Jimmer is engaged, I'm guessing it's safe to assume that Jimmer both went to Priesthood session and watched most of conference this weekend.

Jimmer's girlfriend/fiancÃ© comes from a very wealthy family. A pre-nup might still be necessary, but she's not going to be in dire situations either way.

Wow, if I were a woman marrying for the first time, I don't care how much my husband had or would have, if he wanted a prenup I'd tell him to go find someone else.

My sentiments, but if it was myself marrying a rich woman who had sentiments that they needed to protect themselves "just in case", I'm sorry, but I'm walking because that's a sure sign of a lack of commitment in my eye.

I can understand those situations when people get married later due to death or other unusual issues where there are now children involved as many a kid has been screwed out of the estate of a parent because of a later gold-digger type relationship, but if you're pulling that out on your first marriage, than I wouldn't be interested.

I agree with this. I understand some women also don't want to take their husband's last name and I don't think I could ever be in a position to counsel a woman one way or another, but I will say that it does feel like a lack of commitment to me just like a prenup.

I highly recommend marriage.

I would strongly discourage a prenup.

The same way that Jimmer approached basketball and getting to the NBA is how everyone needs to approach marriage..."I will do whatever it takes."

I agree Jim. No one plans on their marriage not working out. And I know it seems like a lack of commitment, but it's also a smart thing to do. Jimmer isn't like you and I. His situation is something to which we can't relate.

The jewelry stores must be counting their blessings after this last Conference weekend. If there isn't a huge increase in the number of engagement rings being sold that I'd be surprised.

Sadly for her basketball is probably Jimmer's main focus right now. Maybe after the draft when he has some cash to buy a ring he'll pop the question.

I think Jimmer would be a decent credit risk at this point in his life. Any ring shop worth their salt should be willing to give him significant store credit.
