The Jazz will take Jimmer with their 2nd pick

I had dinner this week with a marketing executive with the Jazz. He told me that the Jazz will be sure to take Jimmer with their second pick in the draft, should he still be available. As a marketer, he was pretty excited about the idea of adding Jimmer to the Jazz roster.



I hope Jimmer does it again and defys all the critics that say he won't be successful at the next level.

I root for the Jazz to win, but don't really care either way about their success like I do BYU-- I'm more of a fan of players in the NBA.



I want Jimmer to go to a team on a big stage, where he'll fit in as a guy that causes other teams trouble when they focus too much on stopping their star players. e.g. Miami, Boston, Chicago, New York.... even the Lakers.



I'd hate to see Jimmer go to the Jazz just so they can market him to sell tickets.

Might as well go to Europe than play with the Fizzle.

If the Jazz think Jimmer will sell tickets they're sorely mistaken. Fans in Utah show up for quality teams. If your team sucks the fans won't come out. Look at Ute bball. They can't give away tickets right now. Jimmer didn't even sell out that arena.



RSL struggled with attendance their first several years. Win a Cup and be one of the best teams in the league and you'll fill your stadium 85% in early March in cold and rain and then set a stadium record the following week.



BYU didn't even sell out the Marriott Center consistently until the Cougs got into the Top 15.



If the Jazz draft Jimmer they should do so because he fits the system Corbin wants to run. If it's to sell tickets it's a bad move.



Sadly, I think the Jazz really think they can cash in on Jimmermania and they're going to be sorely mistaken.

I would be a LOT more likely to go to a Jazz game if Jimmer was playing.

A lot more likely 40 times for the next five years?

I might be more inclined to go if I got free tickets, but I wouldn't go out and buy tickets to Jazz games just to see Jimmer.

No, but a lot more likely maybe 5 times a year over the next five years, as opposed to 5 times total over the past five years.

I hope he's gone before then. The Jazz are not a good team and are on only going to be getting worse. Would like to see him end up on a good team where he'd be a key cog in an established offense.

HIs own success and awards will keep him from dropping to a lower first round and therefore be stuck with a team like the Spazz or worse. At least if it were the Spazz, we could get to see him play a bunch. Not sure which pick they have for the 2nd pick, but I think he's gone by 15.

My thoughts exactly, spot on.

Jimmer will only be a draw for the Jazz for the first few weeks of the season. People want to watch winning teams. I didn't like watching BYU lose, even when they had Jimmer.

Exactly, the Jazz should be focused on winning and making their team better. Full stadiums will follow that. Now, if they think Jimmer can help them win and make them better they should take him. But if they just think they can get Jimmer and he'll help fill the ESA while they figure out how to put a winning product out on the court then it's no wonder Sloan retired and Williams and Boozer wanted out. It's because the Jazz aren't committed to winning they're committed to making money and holding on to their fan base that will leave if they don't win.

The earlier you go, the more likely you are to go to a terrible team. The Jazz have early picks because of trades, not because of how bad they've been. Outside of Utah, the basketball world respects the Jazz for their ability to stay competitive as long as they have.



The Jazz at least offer a few things that other teams in the lottery don't.



1. He will play... they can't hide him on the bench when people pay to see him play (call it the BYU effect)



2. The Jazz have a lot of young talent, and tons of draft picks over the next few years; they have a chance to win in the future and build with Jimmer.



3. The Jazz need an outside shooter badly... I like Devin Harris but he's not a shooter and can compliment a guy like Jimmer



4. Jimmer would get to play in utah where there won't be any pressure to live outside of church standards and he'll be close to the BYU program ... it's good for BYU to have him close



5. It's not charlotte, new orleans, portland, minnesota, toronto, new jersey, etc. etc. etc. teams the regularly find themselves in the lottery but they're historical losers



6. I'd love to see him in Miami, LA or NY but those teams aren't going to draft high enough to get him...



Utah is most likely the best and softest landing spot for Jimmer of the lottery teams... I'd have a hard time believing there's a better argument for any other team with lottery picks.. and he's not making it to the end of the 1st round... too many teams regretted passing on Steph Curry, Steve Nash, etc. If you can score and shoot like Jimmer does, you can play in the NBA and teams will gamble on his upside that he can build himself into a solid defender and passer.

The other upside to being a Jazz... you can be a somewhat average player, and still make BANK!!! (Harpring, Memo, AK, Boozer, Ostertag, the list goes on and on)

If the Jazz start drafting players for marketing purposes they are in a worse position than anyone anticipated. Jimmer doesn't really fit the current Jazz offense. He may fit a new offense if Corbin wants to change it up.

I disagree, in fact, I think Jimmer is more like Deron Williams than people are willing to give him credit. D Will was considered pudgy and slow when he was a senior in college, he certainly didn't score like Jimmer and he didn't come with the marketing aspect.



Jimmer makes a lot of sense to the Jazz, particularly because they're banking on guys like Al Jefferson and Milsap to be the centerpieces of this team right now. That works if there's a guy that can hit shots when they get double teamed and he's wide open. We rarely ever saw Jimmer get shots without someone in his face this year... he'll get that oportunity with the Jazz.



I think those that are hoping he goes to a contender, tend to forget how many bad NBA teams there are out there. Utah is a much much softer landing than 75% of the teams out there, for Jimmers sake.



To get minutes as a rookie, you not only have to be good, be you have to get a chance from the GM, the coaches, and your teammates. Who's going to balk at Jimmer playing early with the Jazz? If you don't get minutes early, you may never get them... consider that while you're talking about the pipe dream of him playing with Lebron or Kobe. (Lebron and Kobe also have those same pipe dreams, because they would love to have a shooter of Jimmers caliber during the playoffs)
