Who Could Succeed Elsewhere?

Hypothetical:

Bob Stoops resigns tomorrow. On Friday, Oklahoma announces that both Bronco Mendenhall and Dave Rose have been hired to be the head coaches of the football and men's basketball programs, respectively.

So my question is a simple one, which coach's philosophy/coaching style would lead to similar success outside of BYU?

Bronco's philosophy would bode too well anywhere else.

I assume you mean "wouldn't" -- if so I agree. It would be too hard for people to understand that football might not be 1st priority.

I want to know how much credit rice should get for byu's bball success? how much is rose or rice or both. its hard to know. rice is obviously very involved.

Both would do well, depending on the job location. But I think Bronco would do well for sure because the man knows how to coach defense, and would get enough offense to win. His skill set translates universally.

Bronco's priority list fits BYU. At another schools, he would modify to fit the schools. He is good that way.

That's what I think too. Defense wins championships.

Both would be as good somewhere else, if not better. BYU can get good players every year, with the occasional stand out athlete in both sports. Give either coach a larger pool to get better athletes, and they potentially could get better.

Bronco was not this way at his other stops, nor while he was an assistant here. Not saying that what he shows now is fake, but he understands what his employer wants, and feels ok doing his job that way.

Oops. That is what I meant. Thanks for catching that.

Dave & Bronco are great coaches who would succeed nearly anywhere. The real question is who (other than these 2 coaches) could succeed at BYU.

Bronco Mendenhall would be successful no matter where he coached. You don't win 10 games per year for 4 years in a row unless you are teaching sound fundamental football, that would translate well anywhere. In fact, if he were to coach somewhere like ND, Florida, USC, Texas, or OK, he would be battling for a NC every year. What he has done at BYU has been amazing. Just like Dave Rose. They both are terrific coaches and we are lucky to have them.
