Do we sound really good or what?

I read about five articles from all over the place on the football team this morning and I gotta say, I am genuinely excited about this upcoming season. It looks like our USC boys are going to be starting probably from day one (Kaveinga and Fangupo) and Mike HAGUE for crying out loud lost 45 lbs and moved to safety! Supposedly he has gotten absolutely lightning fast and Bronco just walked over to him and asked him straight up to play safety for him on the defense. Sounded like a Remember the Titans moment, haha.

I think what I love hearing about the best is the extreme level of competitiveness, not only the individual players exhibit for their positions, but that the offense and defense exhibit against each other. It sounds like steel sharpening steel.

From offense to defense to special teams, I get the feeling that come fall, we are going to be very, very good.

To be honest, not sure what to think yet. I want balance on the team, and not for the O to simply dominate practices. That is a bad sign to me. especially since our starting O-line are all out injured. Of course, so is some of the D, so it really is hard to figure just yet. But the one thing that is getting me excited is the fact that we are developing great depth on both sides of the ball. If BYU has had a weakness in the past, this is it. But Bronco is recruiting well, and the depth is getting better.

I had the same concerns. I would think the d would be dominating considering the whole offensive line is second string except for one. On the other hand it may just be that the talent pool has increased and our second string oline is as good as most first string olines. :) hopefully that is it.

I am most concerned about the secondary. It looks like our front seven should be pretty good, especially if bryson comes back in good shape.

I like hearing that our QBs are showing good accuracy. This was something they weren't in spring or fall camps last year. I like hearing about good timing on offense.

Our receivers struggled early last year. I loved the article on Ben Cahoon. Effort trumps athlectic ability--effort AND athletic ability creates excellence. These receivers could make Jake's skills look great.

Personally, I think it's a big mistake to be wasting time on Nelson at QB. Lark needs to be groomed as the backup, not Nelson. Nelson can really play, I'm unconvinced Nelson can--hope I'm wrong. If Heaps goes down, I want Lark ready to play. But we do have a new OC, maybe Nelson can thrive in the "new system" and provide good backup. But all Nelson will ever be at BYU is a backup, Heaps is not going to be displaced as the starter.

Unless he injures his groin, hamstring, or knee, which is very common on our team.

You don't groom a backup. You groom a successor. We don't have a Heaps' successor on the roster. So you go with the best option at backup, which most reports seem to indicate is Nelson.

yes, we sound good, but we alwasy do in spring. Although I must say this year's depth and speed at EVERY postion is something we haven't had before.

Spring Football is the equivalent of singing in the shower. Sounding good doesn't mean much, but sounding bad is a surefire harbinger that you suck.
