IsolaI feel like it is too soon to really revisit the Florida game, but if not now, when.
I have gotten over the sting and the Jimmer backlash. Now I wanted to point out a couple remarkable things about that game and this year's team.
When I was reviewing the Box Score, I expected that we had been killed on the boards, but that wasn't the case. Our undersized team only lost the rebounding battle by three in the game, and only two in regulation. We even won the offensive rebounding battle 11-8.
Also I remember after the game in San Diego, but before the Divies suspension Gottlieb said that BYU still didn't deserve a #1 seed. Instead he had Texas getting a #1. Two weeks later, after losing Davies and two games, BYU was still a 3 seed while Texas was a 4, and Texas got bounced before the short-handed Cougars did. Notre Dame was another trendy pick for a #1 seed and they too got bounced before the Cougars, without an excuse.
By my tally, these are the 4 or higher seeded teams to get bounced before their seeding and the Cougars:
#4 Louisville Second Round 1 point loss to #13 Morehead State
#2 Notre Dame Third Round 14 point loss to #10 Florida State
#3 Syracuse Third Round 4 point loss to #11 Marquette
#3 Purdue Third Round 18 point loss to #11 Virginia Commonwealth
#4 Texas Third Round 1 point loss to #5 Arizona
#1 Ohio State Sweet Sixteen 2 point loss to #4 Kentucky
#1 Duke Sweet Sixteen 16 point loss to #5 Arizona
#2 SDSU Sweet Sixteen 7 point loss to #3 Connecticut
