KSL linked Dan Patrick's defense of the Jimmer. Worth a listen.

Interesting considering how tight Dan is with Reilly. Reilly has been a guest on Dan's show for years.

Yeah, unfortunately Reilly throws out this hit piece against Jimmer for provocation. Faint praise is still praise, as the saying goes? Reilly's column generating so much righteous criticism still keeps him in the news. Better to be a famous bad guy than a good guy nobody knows about.



I appreciate Patrick's comments. I think he is spot on, and I think Reilly knows it too but it doesn't bother him as long as people read and react to his tripe.



It's too bad Reilly succumbs to this counterfeit self promotion, and at the expense of a guy like Jimmer. Shame on him and any group that prints this garbage. A pox on both their houses.

I thought he nailed it. I think there is too much focus on NBA prospects when looking at college players. NCAA basketball is not just an extended try out for the NBA. It is a sport in and of itself.



And Dan is right, the Reilly article was strictly his opinion and did not reference scouts or coaches, and in fact it quoted Westbrook from the Thunder and USA Basketball saying Jimmer's game will translate. Didn't Westbrook play against Jimmer last summer? Wouldn't he know, and why would he talk up Jimmer? What is his angle? Westbrook has nothing to gain by it.



I was also happy to hear his bit about 4 "pizza delivery guys and an overhyped Jimmer" having an off night and taking Florida to overtime. It doesn't compute.

I loved the part where he talks about Fredettes 36 inch vertical. Basically makes Reilly look ignorant for saying he had YMCA hops. I just liked how he said that him being over publicized is the medias fault and Jimmer shouldnt be held responsible for that and then that same media should be ashamed for turning on him. Overall good job by Dan. Dftly made me a fan!

I agree that Jimmer was hyped by the media. But he was hyped because he was dang good!

I'm baffled that ESPN's editors let such a column run given their recent contract with us and all the promoting of BYU they've done.

It was a complete hack job that Riley had wanted to write for a long time and just needed Jimmer to play poorly so he could. Look at when he wrote it, after BYU's season was done so Jimmer couldn't "redeem" himself with another great game. Look at whom he interviewed, a seldom used backup point guard as far down the bench as you could get. Look at his quotes, one random fan who may have only said Jimmer reminded him of Pistol Pete. Look at his stereotypes. Look at his criticism. Just a mean-spirited, hateful article that does nothing to better anyone involved (writer, subject, reader). There is no redeeming quality to this article because it tells us nothing people didn't already know.
