Geneaology -- Interesting relatives?

I am by no means a genealogist, but I do like to poke around in my family history. Luckily, too, I apparently am related to some great genealogists because much of the work has been done literally as far back as can possibly be done.



In fact, as I was poking around in it today I discovered on my fathers side I have a straight link (father to son) to Katheryn Tudor, grand daughter of Henry VII and cousin to Queen Elizabeth. In fact, following that line you also find that she is a direct descendant of Philip III, King of France. The one famously known for destroying the Templar Knights.



Does anyone else have any fun, interesting or famous characters in their family history?

Benedict Arnold. Not even kidding.

I have a few greats grandfather who crossed the Delaware with Washington, does that count? There has been a Whaley fighting in every major American war since independence.

We been here since the Mayflower. Pretty sure I'm related to Noah too.

One of my ancestors fell off the Mayflower. Seriously. Also, Lady Godiva.

I've got some real bad news about my genealogy. I have checked it and rechecked it and then I had the members of my family check it also and they all seem to agree that very, very unfortunately I am related to myself. :~( :~(

the problem with being related to European royalty is there was a significant amount of in-breeding that took place to maintain "royal blood". urroner, I'm not shocked at all to hear about your ancestry.... ;) :whistle: :evil: :evil:



Actually I'm directly related to William Holmes Walker who served a mission to South Africa and baptized the great great great ancestors of my wife. yeah. That was a fun find.



I'm also related to William the Conquerer so I'm just as royally retarded as the ugly people.

Yes, I know Jesus. I met him on my mission to Mexico. Quite a nice man IIRC. He kept asking us to call him "Chewie."

Odds are your family goes deeper than that, with your royal blood ties. You and I probably meet up somewhere down the line. The furthest I got my family line is to 700 ad.



I have Charlamane(spelling?), four Roman Emperors, countless Dukes, many King of Dutch's. Here's where you and I probably go meet up, I forgot the term they called the English people before they were actually known as England.



Once you hit royal blood... You'll go back far.

Sno's, Sammich's and my ancestors used to pal around together as they floated across. The generation before was one, instrumental in translating the Bible into English, and he was Bloody Mary's first martyr. Another ancester saved Robert the Bruce from a charging highland bull (I think he was also partly responsible for the origination of rodeo ;) ;) ).

My great grandpa Nelson fought John L. Sullivan the last bare knuckle champion for 2 rounds and Sullivan quit. When the champ was training he'd go around to camps and fight the camp tough and my grandpa was it for his camp. Sullivan quit cause grandpa was knocked out, but he was a rough and tumble guy and put a lot of lumps on people that were disagreeable. Mom said he had a testimony though. I guess you could say he fought for it.



I am also a descendant on my dad's side of Elizabeth Winthrop who is the niece of Governor Winthrop the first governor of Massachusetts. He was probably as good as they got now. She was in his household but went her own way long before women's lib.



All my ancestors (including grandpa Nelson as a baby) forged their way across the plains with others who'd accepted the gospel of Jesus Christ. I am humbled by their sacrifice and very grateful for them.

The uncle of Sir William Wallace. My daughter went to Scotland on a tour and there was someone there dressed up as Braveheart. She aske if he was related to him which he wasn't but Emmy was.

My third great grandfather took cattle into Moab, becomming the first white person in the area. The indians stole his cattle, so he went back for more, and became the second white person in the area. ;) He is buried in Springville, and the DUP gave him a huge tombstone. His son (my gg uncle) was an accomplished wheelwright at 17, and was in the vangard company with Brigham Young.
