Did Apo get a medical red shirt?

Sorry if this has been discussed already. I'm curious to know if Apo did get the medical redshirt that was applied for. Did his hand heal up pretty good in the end, or will it bother him? I can't imagine that kind of injury not leaving some sequelae. I can't wait to see him play. How is the tight end situation coming along? :)

I may be wrong here, but I don't think the NCAA hardly ever grants a medical redshirt unless they've already used their normal redshirt. Since he was a true freshman, I think the NCAA would simply expect him to take his normal redshirt year.

I think the NCAA should have to accept and deny redshirts on a double-blind basis. Not know the school or the person, just the circumstances. Then they'd stop getting accused of things they ARE doing.

This would work but he played in the Washington game so a regular red shirt was not available for last year.

FWIW, the 2011 roster lists Apo as a freshman.

You can still take your redshirt year even after playing in a game. There are certain rules regarding how many quarters you played in, and I think what part of the season, etc, but you can definitely still use your redshirt, which is what happened with Apo . . . I think.

No, one play means you can't take your one redshirt. The rules to which mraven is referring are in regards to a medical redshirt. if don't play in enough quarters/games/plays, then a player with an early season injury has a high chance of receiving a medical waiver to have that year count as his redshirt. Which is what most likely has happened to Apo.

Yeah when I was reading that I thought that that applied to the medical reshirt, which isn't it like 30% of a season or something like that? Which is why Asiata got one, After playing in like 2 and a half games or something.
