Too Early To Start Talking about next year?

I know it is.



What do you guys think, and sorry for bringing this up so early, but what do you guys think our chances of making the postseason will be? I think we have a good, not great season, we go 20-10 in the regular season, we win the WCC tourney, make it to the NCAA's as an 11 seed. lose to whoever we draw.

If we have Davies and CC back I think we'll be better than most think but replacing Jimmer, Jackson, and Kyle is going to be a TOUGH task.

Of course, we DID say the same thing about Haws. We thought losing him would be a big deficit. It wasn't.



That being said. It's hard to compare anyone to BYU's all-time steal's leader and BYU's all team scoring leader.



sigh...

Considering we lost 3 of our top 6 expected to play this year, (Lloyd Jr., CC, Davies), I think we did OK!!!



And I think Rose can do it again. Especially in the better environment of the WCC. I'd be willing to bet that the refferees won't be so one-sided in the WCC.



My blue goggles say next year will be better, at least the conference run. All bets are off if we lose half of our expected best 6 again.

Losing three of your top six is very different from losing your top two.



We lose a TON but we have a bunch coming in. I'll be very surprised if we're not competing for a regular season championship in the WCC next year, despite our losses.



BYU will win more games next year than Utah will the next two.

A healthy CC and a reinstated Davies would do wonders. We'll have Noah back and we'll have Abouo and Rogers. Hopefully Carlino can step in and contribute. And I am really hoping that Demarcus will live up to the hype and be a starter. If KC can start, Demarcus should be able to.



We'll also be in the WCC. With us in the WCC it should be a two bid conference. St. Mary's and Gonzaga will pose trouble for us, but we should be able to handle the rest of conference. We'll likely split against St. Mary's and Gonzaga.

You can't compare losing three of your top 6 EXPECTED RETURNEES to losing 2 who you knew you would lose. That's apples to oranges. We expected to lose Haws this year or I would have said 4 of the top 7. We also expect to lose KC for next year, but he doesn't count in this context either.

I do believe that Matt Carlino will have the toughest job next season...

Looking to the WCC Santa Clara is still playing in the CBI tourney. Their rpi this year was 14 but with BYU joining, I think it will be top 10 next year. Plus I hear some of their teams are improving. The bottom 3 are trash but we got 3 ranked teams at the top and the middle are improving. Hopefully together we can built a good conference like we did in the MWC.

I actually think Jackson will be harder to replace than Jimmer. I don't think we'll have anyone that averages 27 points next year, but we'll have a few more people in the 10 to 20 point range than we did this year. But being as good defensively as Jackson was is going to be difficult for anyone. Charles is the closest thing that we have right now, but then who replaces him at what he does.



Someone stated earlier that Haws wasn't that big of a loss. If we have Haws this year, and everything else happened the same way (no Lloyd, C Collinsworth, or Davies), BYU is still playing, and possibly the favorite to win the tournament with who the other 3 teams are. He is such a good shooter, a decent defender, can play multiple positions, and was clutch. Even as a freshman he made game winning plays and free throws.

Can't agree with this. Sure Haws is a much greater asset on O than KC, but defense and rebounding win tourney games and that's what Kyle brought. Haws is far too small for the teams we played against and he would not have seen the floor to shoot the ball imo.

Haws and JT made up for their lack in defense by putting points up.

I think next year will be a transition year for sure. We lose Jimmer, Jax and KC to a mish. Those 3 guys were leaned on BIG TIME this year. Might be getting Winder off a RS, BD back mid year, CC back from injury and more from Rogers and Abuou, but not the same team. We will not be near as good, but can be in 2012 and beyond.
