I'm calling it right now...

Not only will BYU beat Florida this Thursday to advance to the Elite Eight for the first time in 30+ years...not only will BYU beat the winner of Wisc/Butler to advance to the first final four in school history...but on April 2, BYU will play and BEAT Kansas in Houston...and will then beat OSU the following Monday, for the teams first (and maybe only ever?) NC in bball.



This is a team of destiny. There are NO unbeatable teams out there. NONE. But when BYU is on like they were on Saturday, no one can beat them. The team, and especially Jimmer and Jackson, are going to peak for these next 4 games, and will cut down the nets come April 4.



And Jimmer will rise into NCAA bball immortality.

Y 4 Ever, I think you believe all of the above.

Would be awesome. And to be honest, only team out that that I really fear is tOSU, because they can shoot it too and have great interior play. That sort of balance is what could beat us--even on an on night. But the key is that we have to keep the solid shooting up. 50% overall and 45%+ from the 3-ball is a winning formula for a team that hits FTs.

The ebb and flow of optimism



I think you have to be optimistic in following your team. My son constantly tells me, when I call him a pessimist, that he's a realist. Someone else offered up that same description of themselves when they were demonstrating signs of pessimism to me yesterday. I think that's being optimistic of your pessimistic tendencies.



My experience in riding that wave of optimism is that the wave always comes down. You hope it rides far, but Saturday's game was almost a prime example as Gonzaga came off of a near perfect dismantling of St. Johns on Thursday to be Jimmered. Sure, the Cougars were a wave of perfection themselves, but this season alone we saw the euphoria of two amazing wins over SDSU shattered in the breaking crest of losses twice to New Mexico directly following.



So I hope the players express the same confidence that you do as confidence is very helpful in your quest, but bad games and good games are just part of the experience.

Call it optimism, call it homerism, call it whatever you want. I call it my gut instinct. Started feeling this way about Saturday a.m. when everyone (including many on this board) were predicting a slaughter at the hands of the zags.



This team has "it" again.



Every once in a while a "storybook" team comes along. A team that transcends the sport. Byu this year has a chance to be just that team. If (when) byu cuts down the nets, this team (and jimmer) will forever go down as one of teams that was above the game, more than the game. Combination of the Jimmer and the Davies stories.



Maybe I'm dead wrong. Maybe we get smoked on Thursday. But the stage is set. And I believe that the cougs are ready.

in order to accomplish what you're saying is win another game ugly. At least one.



I was in Denver for the Wofford and Gonzaga games. After seeing us stumble and bumble our way on Thurs to make beating Wofford harder than it should have been, then watching Gonzaga just drill a very good St John's team, I was afraid we were going to get clobbered on Saturday by the Zags. Boy was I glad to be wrong. And you could tell in the first three minutes that this game would be different.



Problem is I don't think we can sustain the extremely high level of play we saw on Saturday for four straight games. We could probably do it for two or three games. But I think we'll have at least one game in the next four----if we're fortunate enough to have four----where we aren't sharp, calls don't go our way, some guys are just off, not feeling well, what have you. Somebody will have to step up besides Jimmer to carry us. And we'll probably have to get a little lucky along the way.



But we can win this thing. You can feel that there is magic in this team. Perhaps each player has dug a little deeper since the Davies suspension arose. Perhaps the heavens are smiling on us. Whatever the cause, I've never in person seen a BYU team play as well in an important game as it played on Saturday against Gonzaga. If this team is able to sustain this level of play for the rest of the tourney, I really just don't know who can beat us. :angry:

I'm not sure why you think it will be hard to maintain that level of play for four games straight. It is more a mindset at this point. I think they have "the eye of the tiger" at this point and unless they lose that, they will be hard to beat. I don't think it was just by chance that they played so well against the zags, but the great play was a result of great preparation, excellent focus , determination and confidence. Other teams can somewhat disrupt that, but I think it has already caught on to the entire team... For heaven sakes, look how well Anderson played! Our weak link was almost solid.

For a shooter, when you're on, you're on, and it's possible to be "on" for weeks at a time. These guys are well-conditioned enough that fatigue shouldn't play a part in it. I wouldn't exactly call myself a shooter, but when I was playing ball at the MTC during gym time something happened... For the last month or so I was there, I was something like 80-90% on 3-pointers, even when I had a guy 4-6 inches taller than me in my face. Sure, it's only 3-vs-3 there and the competition isn't the same, but I was just on, and it lasted an awfully long time.



If it can happen to me, it can happen to Jimmer and company.
