Visibility and perception

Now that BYU is the benefactor of much wanted visibility, and some extra cash, will we see an improvement in the turf? It seems like the grass played a significant role in a few too many games the last few years.

Rumors are that A&W and DrPepper are fighting for advert space on the field. Caffeine free version

I would prefer to have them keep natural grass. There aren't that many natural fields left. They just need to get the roots developed. Last year seemed fine, but two years ago was a debacle. I would imagine we won't see problems with the grass this year.



They could put money into other areas of the stadium though. It might be nice to do whatever they need to to allow ESPN to use that overhead wire camera at our games. Would also be nice if we can tell Allstate we have enough money and don't need their logo on the field goal net blocking the fans views in the north endzone.

The field was just fine last year. Another year for it to take root and it will be even better. GRass fields gets ripped up, just how i goes, but they are still better to play on for knees and ankles. And fields with a little more given even more so.



Bet we do sell ad space on the field next year, or maybe even put a WCC logo on it.

I prefer to keep the advertisements on the outside. Keep the field clean. It would be a win-win. More people would see the ads, and BYU keeps the field for what it was meant for.

I wasn't going to let this slip out yet, but we've been working on a deal to get one of the endzones to say CougarCorner.com and have the kneeling harline logo!

I wasn't going to let this slip out yet, but we've been working on a deal to get one of the endzones to say CougarCorner.com and have the kneeling harline logo!

Is there also going to be a designated corner in the stadium as the CougarCorner.com seating area?

Since they get $0 for the Pac12 next year they need to find some way to pay 3 basketball coaches next year!

I heard they were going to move the stretch Y to the endzones and just put a huge Jimmer face in the center of the field.

So I have this brother-in-law who is a Trojan through and through. BA nd MA from there and now a huge supporter. He is not a member of my faith. He is a very successful CPA (has celebrity clients) mostly because of his SC connections. He has hired several BYU graduates because of their education. He has a lot of respect for the business school, the football program, and now basketball. He is unfamiliar with the church and a little leary of BYU as a whole. He's a good guy, and I get that.

In the mid 90's he came to visit my wife and I while I was in grad school at BYU. He wanted to see the stadium and we went. DIdn't get kicked out by the BYU police, and he seemed very impressed.

Seriously asking, now that I am in CA (but will be living in DC before the football season begins), what will the millioans of new viewers see in High Definition when the first ESPN gane airs? Are things in good shape? And staying away from the "expansion" talk, is anything being done to make sure the perception of our facilities (and thus by extension our progrm, University, Church...and even people) is as positive as can be? Is there now money for that kind of thing that wasn't there before?

I'm all for natural grass if it holds. What was that all about 2 years ago? I though the stadium had state of the art drainange systems, etc?

I love the natural grass, keepin it real.



As far as the facilities, one nice pan by the camera of the mountains east of the stadium and no one is going to notice anything inferior about the stadium itself. I really don't know of a better venue for a football game.

The first thing they'll probably see is a beautiful shot of the east stands with Y mountain in the background. It doesn't get any better than that. They also like to do a shot of snow-capped Timp, which is pretty as well. (some examples are here: http://www.byucougars.com/athletic_department/facilities/edwardsStadium/index.jsp) Every national broadcaster I've heard do a pregame from there has talked about how it is one of the most beautiful settings in college football, from the scenery outside to the field to the press boxes (which are well known to be fantastic). Recent changes include the upgraded TV hookups (as well as room for state-of-the-art HD broadcast trucks, like ours), better bathroom facilities on the east side, the logo on the back of the south scoreboard, blue and white seats on the east side spelling out BYU to replace a large section of bleachers, and giant posters of our All-American players hanging from the rafters under the stands.



Perhaps the most important change will be that we no longer have to have the MWC logo on our field or the :utard: flag above the stadium. The benefits of independence just keep on coming!



The thing with the grass two years ago was because they had replaced the turf, which was old, and the water they were using to irrigate it wasn't helping the roots take hold. Once they switched to culinary water, the roots got nice and strong and we didn't have problems with it last year.
