MWC and USU got the shaft

I am tired of the Eastern and Big Conference bias. Why has ranking and RPI's, etc, if the selection committee will just ignore them anyway? The MWC got 3 teams, but was the RPI 4th best league? WHat is up with that? UNM or CSU deserved a 4th spot over many other teams. And USU a 12? At 30-3? Really? Horrible. They were a 6 or 7. I hate the committee. The screw it up every year. Badly. And mostly to benefit big league teams.

But think of it this way, if you were a 5 seed, how would you like to have to play a team that went 30-3? Talk about getting a tough matchup!

NM lost twice to Utah and to Wyoming. Had they won those 3 games, they would have made it. They have no one to blame but themselves.



CSU has a stronger argument, but they missed out on beating SDSU at home when they could and they lost to NM to open the MWC tournament.



USU's biggest win was over St Mary's, which didn't make the tournament. It sucks, true, but we aren' tin the MWC any more and USU brought it on themselves.



On to the WCC and a second round over Gonzaga. ;)

Nothing like the CBS guy saying USU might upset them, I was like WITH HALF THE LOSSES is it really an upset ??

Who exactly would NM or CSU beat that got in over them? Dairese Gary is hurt and CSU choked big time down the stretch. Losing by 17 to Air Force? No way they deserved to get in. Va Tech and St Marys got screwed thats for sure. And Utah State a 12 seed? really? 30 wins and they get a 12.. thats a joke.

And lost to Utah 2 times, and Wyoming once. And their best player got hurt.

so losing conference games in teh RPI #4 league is bad, but ok for other leagues with a worse RPI?

That's the whole truth and nothing but the truth, but you saw that coming a mile away because everyone in the country that projected basically had only 3 teams in.



Life just never will be fair and there is no getting around that fact.

What I'd love to see is the Big East fall flat on their faces for a 2nd year in a row after having gotten so many teams in the dance. I'll be a fan of anyone who plays a Big East team. That's exactly why I quit playing brackets as I enjoy the games so much more when I don't have to worry if I picked the team in my bracket to win or not.

Besides beating BYU, who has NM beat? What have they done to prove they deserve to be in? NOTHING. Especially Losing Dairese Gary, If they didnt shoot lights out against BYU in the 2nd round we beat them by 20 easy.



I would love to hear your arguement for NM, besides the league being rated number 4.

USU has an AWFUL resume. Their final RPI was 18, which is decent. They have an awful loss (@ Idaho RPI 137). They have TWO wins vs the RPI Top 100 (St. Mary's 48 and Long Beach St 90). They do have 30 wins, but 18 came against RPI 150+ or DII.



They have no signature wins or players. They're a good team and are probably seeded right. They got a good draw. They're playing a team that may no like the Aggies structure and is prone to falling apart and undisciplined play. If you're "underseeded" then win your game and play where you should.

Also the team, forgot name, who plays Wisconsin is 30-4.

There has actually been 4 30-win teams to not get a 2 or lower seed before and one of them is very familiar:



Murray State (30-4 in 2010, RPI 57): 13 seed



Utah State (30-4 in 2009, RPI 23): 11 seed



Memphis (31-2 in 2009, RPI 7): 2 seed



Memphis (33-1 in 2008, RPI 3): 1 seed



Memphis (30-3 in 2007, RPI 8): 2 seed



Memphis (30-3 in 2006, RPI 4): 1 seed



Cincinnati (30-3 in 2002, RPI 2): 1 seed



UMass (31-1 in 1996, RPI 2): 1 seed



UNLV (30-0 in 1991): 1 seed



Temple (31-3 in 1987): 2 seed



UNLV (33-1 in 1987): 1 seed



UNLV (31-4 in 1986): 4 seed



Bradley (31-2 in 1986): 7 seed



so I guess there are now 6 as BYU was 30 wins and got a 3 and USU received a #12, but a #12 was about as bad of a dis as you could get.

A bigger tragedy than the MWC's 3 bids is that the Pac-10 got 4. USC lost badly to TCU!!!!!! Any team those loses to TCU should not be dancing, period, end of story.



And the SEC did not deserve to half its teams get bids, when the conference was pretty weak.



UNLV should have got a 6 seed. USU should have got a 7 or 8. But the committee did USU a favor by giving them a good shot to win -- most 5/12 matchups are very competitive and this one should let USU have a chance at a Sweet 16.



SDSU could easily make the Final Four (given that the Aztecs can only lose to BYU....)



And as for BYU....I really like the SE bracket. BYU should be able to make a make the Sweet 16 and even the Elite 8 is not that big of a problem.

I agree with 88Coug. If the Pac10 weren't a BCS Football conference they'd be lucky to get 2 teams in. SEC probably would have gotten 3 teams in.
