Do we beat SDSU with Davies?

I think this is one of the key questions the committee is asking themselves.



I asked in Chat last night if our seeding for the year depends on one game. And with all the "4" talk I see going around, it sure seems like it does. After UNM game, I heard people talk about BYU deserving a "1" seed again even without Davies. Now that talk is down to as low as a "4".



Our SDSU wins of the past magically vanished and everyone points to Davies as the one reason. But here's what I think:



I don't think anyone beats a top 10 team 3x in a row. With or without Davies. I still think we lose last night's game even if we had him. But that simple fact doesn't matter because NOW BYU has a glaring excuse of why we lost this time. Not that three times in a row is hard or that SDSU also happens to be a great team, but because NOW we're perceived as weak, vulnerable and no longer a top 10 team.



Really annoying that they give brandon that much credit. Good as he was, we still lose to SDSU in last night's game.

--to many things. The media and nation had wiped away the byu bias and were ready to bestow a 1 seed . But Brandon and byu gave them a big, tall, reason to bring all the bias (and this case a very realistic doubt) back.



Maybe we beat sdsu. In fact I will say very realistically we do. Jimmer really wanted this championship.

Harts wouldn't have had to play so many minutes, his legs would have been better and his shots not as frozen rope, flatter than flat. Then Harts could have done what he does best which is helpside defense. Further, sdsu has to respect our inside and we have fewer contested outside shots.

But to your point, our seeding drop off would not be as bad or at least our city to play in would not be far away from provo.

And maybe since we keep letting Brandon represent the university more and more (once again doing his Davidic-like dancing in the pre-game circle) each week and maybe since he'll probably travel with the team to the tourney this week..............AND why the heck not?????!!!!! He worked all year, he should get some spoils right?

Just give him the fricken uni and suit him up byu!! "The year's season is over, right? Isn't this "post-season" play?

Yep, still bugged by Brandon and BYU. But, there I was with a lot of other fans, cheering in Vegas to the bitter pill ending of that slaying by the infidels--all of them.

Give it up big time to this team who kept their gospel and HC commitments AND gave their all vs UNM and gutted it out in a losing battle. Warriors, most of them!

BYU would have beaten SDSU if they had made shots. Look at the box score. BYU was outrebounded by only 5. We had 16 offensive rebounds. So didn't really get killed on the glass.



We only had 9 turnovers. We only committed 10 fouls. So played under control



They shot 5-15 from 3, so they didn't kill us from the outside.



SDSU only took three more shots than us. But they made nine more. We didn't make shots, in part because of all the minutes our guys had played the previous two days. We have no depth and it caught up with us in the form of tired legs on jump shots in the finals.



Davies wouldn't have made our jump shooters any less tired.



We got beat by a better team because we didn't have the depth leading up to the game to give our guys time to rest.

SDSU was a highly motivated team, kind of like BYU was the night before. Davies makes a small difference last night. I do feel that it is silly to keep having him with the team unless he's going to play. They could say that the punishment has been re-evaluated, and Brandon has done enough to warrant a return to the team.

I'm not sure we beat UNM on Friday if we had Davies.

Hard to say. Beating a team like SDSU is hard to do three times in one season.



Having Brandon would have given us a legit inside presence. SDSU knew they could completely forget about the inside. They knew even if Noah got the ball down low with his back to the basket there was about a 15% chance Noah was going to do something with it. With Davies we would have had an inside/out game going on. SDSU would have had to double up on Davies if he got the ball down low and with two defenders worrying about Jimmer at all times that would have left more of our guys open. Noah, Jackson and Abouo got a lot of open looks when we played at SDSU. They didn't get nearly as many last night.



SDSU could leave one of their long guys on Jimmer the whole time knowing that Noah was the only "big" guy we had. Noah was usually camped out at the 3 point line though, which left Abouo and KC to be our inside presence particularly when it came to rebounding.



We missed Brandon last night.
