Sad Day for BYU Hoops Fans

Rumor is that the PAC-12 loaned the Utah Athletic Department the $2mill to buy-out his contract. How sad is your program when (a) you need to borrow money to fire underperforming coaches, and (b) you new conference is so horrified by your hoops team that they are willing to loan your upside-down AD $2mill????????

(c) when your hoops team is so bad they can't even compete in the PAthetiC 12.

This is just awful news.

I, for one, have confidence in the SNOT. I'm confident they will find another classless, dooshy, underachieving coach who traits will align perfectly with their new conference.

Eh, Bpylen and Rose got along well, and had mutual respect, and that is enough for me. I get some here hate anything Utah, and Boylen was a bit of a character, but he at least showed BYU respect at all times, which is more than I can say for some former Utah coaches.



I suspect Utah goes for a guy who has been a HC previously, and has won. Might be wise to look east again as well. Hoops recruiting is not like football where regional ties matter so much. Just need a solid guy to get it done. I's look at a Patriot League or Sun Belt or A-10 winner.

Maybe they can bring back Giacoletti... that would make me feel better!!!

Utah had to borrow money to send him packing? Holy crap. Their basketball program really is taking a hit.

I was afraid of this. I was hoping they'd keep him on. He could've kept the :utard: s dwelling on the bottom for years. I hope they can find his equal. :evil:

So now that Utah has to pay back the $2 mil, how long will it take until they actually make a dime? 2015?

I agree that Boylen wasn't the worst guy. He may have been a buffoon, but he was harmless. The only thing I can think of that I didn't like about him was that he coached at the "u".

As a taxpayer in Utah that funds Utah, can we block Utah from borrowing the money to buy out Boylen so that they can't fire him and have to keep him?

The reason they are borrowing the money, is because Utah is still paying Giacoleti, and the Ute Boosters didn't want to pay Giaccoleti and Boylen while paying another coaches salary.



What a bloody shambles the Utah program has fallen into! Love it!

Hopefully the fact that the program is in shambles scares away any decent coach. I hate the speculation that they might go after Dave Rose, but I don't imagine he'd have any interest in going up there. At least I hope not. They mentioned on Talkin' Sports last night that Jon Huntsman may be willing to do a little lobbying for them with Rose or Stu Morrill. It doesn't hurt to have someone with money helping out. Anyone hear anything else?

You should try at least. I'd love to see a state prevent borrowing to fund state owned sports teams. Check out what we're doing here in Arizona.

Granted it is a professional team but I can see states passing laws to prevent public funding of stadiums and coaching salaries. I'll talk to my guys and see if we can cut funding for ASU and UA athletics. May help with recruiting down here. Utah ought to be another place that could happen.
