The refs aren't crappy--they just have a tremendous anti BYU attitude.

Being anti-BYU is crappy.

I haven't bought in on the bad refs complaint, but it is very puzzling to have a man score 52 points and only 1 of them come from the free throw line. About the only way that could happen is for that man to take all those shots with no one around him. I didn't see the game but was able to listen to a few minutes from ksl. In that short time they twice questioned non calls on Jimmer.

I take a rip in the MWC refs' general direction.

Again, if you go back and look at the treatment of guys like Harden and Teague, who were 'superstars' but not even POY (IIRC), and then look at the no-calls on Jimmer, it becomes pretty obvious.

USA Today headlined BYU's win and Jimmer's 52 pointer and related the fact that he'd only been to the line once. Has any other sports reporting mentioned this?

Then you obviously didn't see either of the MWC games last night. Thank goodness for the mental and physical toughness of SDSU's team, because between the perrenial home-court advantage and the homer refs last night, UNLV almost stole a game they had no business winning. I actually thought the pro-UNLV bias was as bad or maybe worse than the anti-BYU bias in the previous game. And let's be clear that I am no SDSU fan.



I'm so glad to be leaving a conference that allows a single team to play the tournament that results in an autobid to the NCAA tournament on its home floor every year. I saw a stat that UNLV, prior to last night, was 16-4 on their home court in the MWC tournament--that is an astounding home court advantage!

I am too lazy to look up their actual seedings and wins and losses in the MWC tournament, but given that UNLV is usually in the upper-middle of the pack in the conference, and given that winning the tournament requires 3 wins, in the last 10 years, mathematically they have won 50% of the MWC tournaments. And I believe BYU has won it once in that span.

I don't believe any school should have that kind of an advantage. A year or so ago there was discussion on this and $$$ was the big reason for having it in Vegas. I don't agree that money should be that important. This is not the pros. Something better than that should have been worked out. What arrangement does the wcc have? I sure hope it's at least a neutral sight but if not the conference winner.

The WCC tourney is currently held at the Orleans Arena in Vegas, but there is talk about moving it to the T&M. Either way, it's a neutral site for all WCC teams.

Are we really talking about the UNLV invitational again?

Their winning percentage is WAY beyond their ranking level from league play. It is a huge unfair advantage to one team, who several years, would not have gotten in without the tourney win. Even the pros don't give one team an unfair advantage like that.

They tried it in Denver, and no fans came. When these teams were in the WAC, they tried it in SLC, only BYU and Utah fans came. The only 2 places that makes sense to have it are San Diego or LV. Either way it's someones home court. The Orleans arena is too small. There were more BYU fans in the stands last night than the Orleans holds total.



Oh, and the first half if last nights game was called pretty blatantly for SDSU, especially the end. The second half was called for UNLV. Just shows that the refs suck all around.

If you guys listened to The Herd earlier this week, he had college officiating in his crosshairs and taked about how bad it. He used teams like Wisconsin who went undfeated at home, but suck on the road as examples. He gave like 10 cases of schools that are awesome at home, then crap on the road and blamed the refs. Compared to teh NBA where elite tems win more road games. I think the critique is legit. Home teams get all the calls in college because the refs are so afraid of the home crowd. Glad the game tonight is a true neutral site game. But the refs will still probably suck. Part of the game.
