#1 Seed still a possibility

I know it's unlikely, but with Pitt and ND losing, if we win big vs SDSU could we still sneak into a 1 seed in the tourney?

would we deserve it?



We had mojo with us all season until Davies took it away. Jimmer's 52 got some of it back, but I don't think it's enough.

Would we deserve it? A 2 or 3 RPI, top 25 SOS, 3 losses -- two of which have been avenged, POY.



Pitt: 9 RPI, 26 SOS, 5 losses.

ND: 6 RPI, 23 SOS, 5 losses.



So, played basically against the same schedule and have two less losses than both these teams, not to mention we'd be regular season and tournament conf. champions where they are not. So I'd say yes, we've earned it.

Depends how we look tomorrow. If we came out and beat them by double digits a 3rd time and Jimmer was in control the whole time and the rest of the team looked better than tonight (see overall shooting % emery et al.) Then YES!

None of these numbers are disputable and they look very good.



The problem is we are a COMPLETELY different team than we were when we made most of those numbers. I suspect the Committee will be making their decision based on 40% your numbers and 60% what we've done since Davies left, and those numbers aren't as impressive. so yes, I think there is some roon to question what they'll do.

On KSL yesterday they said that no 30 win team has ever been seeded worse then a 2. So based off of that I would say yes a #1 is still in the realm of possibility.

Everyone was on board w/us as a 1 seed after SDSU win. By beating new mexico last night we showed that the bad game last week was the side effects of the davies bombshell. The committee must forgive that.



A third win over SDSU, this time w/o davies, shows that BYU has foud a way to adjust and is just as legitimate as a 1 seed w/o davies

I don't think it is. #2 at best. People seem to forget that the seeding committee has ALWAYS discounted BYU if at all possible, and the Davies loss and subsequent meltdown at home to UNM gave them just enough reasons to discount any team from the MWC, and especially BYU.



If we win or lose by less than 10, we get a two. A bad loss this afternoon drops us to three of four.

Agreed. BYU is not Duke. They normally look for any reason to drop BYU a seed or two. However, the national media's love affair with Jimmer might be the difference maker that leads to BYU getting the seed it deserves. This year is clearly different. That said, my personal preference is a 2 seed.

I don't understand wanting a lower seed, and I don't think BYU has ever had this much love from the national media heading into the dance. The committee may very well see Jimmer as a cash cow and want to keep him in the tourney as long as possible, therefore justifying not screwing BYU over, just this once.

Throw in a Duke team that may be without Nolan Smith and BYU - with a win today - should very much be in the #1 seed conversation.



Any doubts that we're not the same team without Davies that we were with him, should have been answered. And given the losses other #1 seed candidates have suffered, we should be considered.

They talked about it on college gameday today. If we're in the conversation for a 1 seed there, I'd bet we're in it with the committee as well.

Love ya man, but can't agree here. If the TEAM would've played decent, I would agree. If we beat SDSU tonight and Jimmer scores less than 35, then I'll be on board that we're fine without Davies...

My second paragraph was dependent on my statement in the first of "with a win today."



Those doubts are answered with a win today.

The only thing that needs to happen is Jackson needs to find his stroke again. He was 1-7 on 3's last night and 3-11 overall. He gets his mojo back, and our guards will destroy all comers.

Lunardi says no. I just can't believe that Notre Dame can lose and still be in contention for #1. I'm hoping that even if we lose to SDSU that we won't drop more than to a 3. With a 2 or 3 tomorrow, I don't care what the rest of them end up because it will never be fair and all I can do is take care of ourselves.

If OSU loses to Michigan, than all we have to do is win tonight. And, also, if Clemson Wins UNC, that opens it up even greater.

If BYU goes out and wins again, and Jimmer goes off for 40+ with the supporting cast playing solid as well, we have a shot. We need a team with with our star excelling. The supporting cast got it done vs. TCU on offense, and with the rest vs. UNM. We need them to put that together vs. SDSU. Or they beat us. Unless Jimmer goes for 50 again.



I will be honest. I was hoping for UNLV tonight for the same reason I wanted UNM last night--it is hard to beat a good team 3 straight. We had revenge and a chip vs. UNM last night, and SDSU will have that tonight. Will be tough to overcome, even if Davies was playing.

The crux of your argument is whether or not you believe UNLV is a GOOD team. We swept both teams (UNLV and SDSU) so BOTH would have revenge on their minds. I am a firm believer in home court advantage, especially for a byu vs. unlv game so avoiding them, to me, is more important (as much as I would have loved to see trevon finish his yewt sandwich while jimmer guards him and still scores 30+). IMO, better chance of winning if they get a better team with revenge on their mind on a true neutral court than a good team with revenge on their mind at home.
