Can't wait for Spring Ball

Random post to express my interest in Spring Ball. As entertaining as this basketball season has been, nothing replaces football for me.



No inside information, but I've heard great things. Lots of kids working real hard to find a spot in the rotation. Lots more strength and speed. Lots more faith in the coaching staff.

I share your sentiments. basketball season has been fun and a nice diversion to get us to football. Football is by far my favorite. Pumped to hear about the Doman offense and the Bronco defense for 2011. I expect us to be very aggressive on both sides of the ball.

Alright guys, what has happened to Spring Ball. A week has gone by and there is hardly a dribble of info coming out of all you local Provo Cougs!!!



Did they suspend football until basketball is over? :~(

Actually Bronco did take off yesterday and Saturday because of bball team. So there hasn't been a lot of news to be had. Couple that with the fact that all the reporters are in Denver, and there's no one to report on anything else!

except there WERE guys playing in the outdoors field yesterday.



I was in the business building and too far away to make heads or tails of what was going on, but they were definitely outside doing some kinds of drills.



Haven't seen anyone outside today though.

Don't hawkwing and snocythe have press crendetials by now? If not you could get someone on campus down on the field to get us more info.

BYU couldn't do this just 12 months ago. . . Remember all the dropped passes reported out of spring ball? I'll bet Cahoon won't be standing for any drops this year. I wonder if he would except the excuse that Heaps throws too hard?

He might except that excuse, but I doubt he accepts it.

No coach would accept excuses for dropped passes if the ball is remotely catchable. That was Cahoon's m.o. Too hard will not fly. It is always a weak excuse.

I don't know, but I know Cahoon reported that even he dropped some of Heaps passes last year because they were so hard.

I'm not excusing the receivers, but to say that Heaps was sometimes throwing the ball too hard in his early BYU career is entirely accurate. Luckily he learned to take off some of the mustard. I don't know why you think that is a bad thing?

I don't think anyone is going as far as you seem to be implying, and I'm not sure if you've listened to the interview given the way you characterize Cahoon's response. Cahoon mentioned that he dropped a few of Heaps' passes early on because he wasn't ready for a kid to throw with that much heat. I gave our receivers a pass early in Spring Camp last season too for that same reason--not all quarterbacks throw the ball the same way and you have to adjust to how they are getting the ball to you.



What Cahoon DIDN'T say was that he dropped Heaps' passes all summer long--because he didn't. He did what good receivers do and he adjusted what he was doing, and he probably had made those adjustments in the first day of working with Heaps. That is what our receivers didn't do--they didn't adjust and hold themselves accountable.

This is probably the quote you are referring to per Greg Wrubell:

Having worked with Jake Heaps before the season, Cahoon said he caught balls from Jake "and I dropped balls from Jake; the guy's got a cannon."



Cahoon said what stood about about Heaps "was his football maturity. He was confident, he knew where he was going to go with the ball. If he didn't he faked it well, and that's important, too."



"He's just got a hose for an arm, throws a very nice ball, and is just a confident, quality quarterback. He's going to be phenomenal."

He's not being critical of him at all here. He is given him an off hand compliment using TIC. I'm not sure where you are all reading into this that Jake is in the wrong, and using this as evidence.



A few quotes later:

"The tough catches are routine; the impossible ones just take a little more practice."

I don't think this comes from a guy that thinks it's okay to drop balls.
