Fellow CC'ers...I know that there may be some people that are worried about the performance today. Don't be. This type of format is generally better for the team that played the day before (See Big East Tourney-wouldn't be surprised if the teams that played yesterday actually win the games today against the top 4 seeds). TCU played about as well as they could for 2 days. BYU played about as poorly as they could have for about 35 minutes. BYU still won.



The main guys played a lot of minutes today, but that's normal. Even with that though, they will have more than 24 hours to rest, the game didn't look to be played at a rate that would tire most of them out anyway, and the next team they play will have a similar situation. I highly doubt CSU or New Mexico win in blow-out fashion, and will actually probably be more beat up than BYU.

Agreed. ALthough TCU's slow down strategy kept them in the game, it actually helped BYU to rest while playing. I am not worried that Jimmer and Jax played a full 40 mins given the pace of the game.



I am worried about Jimmer's shooting, but he usually doesn't go cold in back to back games. Same with Jax. I expect both to hit 50% of their shots tomorrow and BYU will find a way to win again no matter who they play.

we also have a few more hours of rest than the UNM, CSU winner. that helps too.



Let's just hope UNM CSU get more beat up than Collinsworth's head and Emery's lip.

Or. "Warm-up and win".

Don't know what it looked like on tv but here at the TandM it looked like a typical warm up game.

Jax seemed to really struggle.

Several sloppy turnovers.

Charles was critical on D toward the end.

They looked at times like they were conserving energy until they were in a little trouble.

Our 3-point D seems to be a major concern without BD.

Bad vs. UNM, bad vs. Wyo, bad vs. TCU.

This is the one concern that BYU fans should be worried about. I think they are reacting too much to a post up. There are only one or two great post up players in this league (and not much more in the country), but they are dropping down too much. BYU should probably play man defense a little more than they have been.

Given how thin we are I am not sure that man is the answer. The answer is score more on offense and stay out of foul trouble.

SELL, SELL, SELL!!! Sorry but I just ain't buying the sunshine you are blowing up everyone's skirt. We looked today just like BYU ALWAYS looks in the MWC and NCAA tournament. Scared. Not sure why this happens every year, but it does. Every single year.



This team was horrible today and we got lucky to win at the end. If BYU plays anywhere near that bad tomorrow we will get blown out. Jimmer looked lost and the rest of the team was pathetic.



For the first time I thought we finally had a mentally tough team that would handle the pressure. I am afraid I was dead wrong.



Here's to a win tomorrow night. I just don't see it happening.

I didn't think our 3-point defense was that bad today. TCU was shooting out of their minds and hitting lots of contested 3's......especially in the 1st half.

Was Kansas looking "scared" today? They won by 1 point. Conference tournaments are a place where a large amounts of upsets and/or close games happen.



You're right about one thing, though: if they play like this tomorrow, they will lose. How many bad games have they had back to back? I can only think of one time this year where that happened.

I don't get the whole scared bit?? We out-rebound them and have a ton more second chance points. The rest of the team, other than Jimmer and Emery, shoot close to 70% for the game. If anything I think we played the game a little too relaxed. We need just a little more intensity and the TCU game was a good one to help shake the rust off.

I am impressed with the offensive rebounds the cougars got especially since we're short handed down low.

Most of you should apply for jobs with the mtn as you sound just like them, almost like we actually lost this game. TCU's coach said in his post game that he knew his team would play well today and they did. Our shooting percentage was not where we wanted it, but we don't shoot lights out every game either.



New Mexico's a well coached team. They played CSU very well and looked poised and in position. CSU was too helter skelter, but it could be that they were knocked a bit out of sync losing Adam Nygon yesterday. No way New Mexico beats us five games in a row.

So if CSU can play helter skelter and still have a chance to win the game with under a minute to play against a team that was well coached, poised and in position. I'll take my chances.

I was pretty concerned about the team's performance. Abouo was fantastic and Hartsock played well. That's about it. They won't win many games when Fredette and Emery go 10/34 (29.4%) from the field. In the past 3 games they've played one good half. Not trending the right direction. Hopefully they can pull it together tomorrow.

That's a good point. It seems like whenever we lose big games it's because we give up open 3's. I don't know why we wouldn't just play straight up on D. I can't even think of who UNM's big guys are but I do remember the names Gary and McDonald. QUIT leaving the shooters open!

That's a good point. It seems like whenever we lose big games it's because we give up open 3's. I don't know why we wouldn't just play straight up on D. I can't even think of who UNM's big guys are but I do remember the names Gary and McDonald. QUIT leaving the shooters open!


TCU's shooters were mostly contested the entire night they just hit their shots

UNM's big man, transfer Drew Gordon, is their best player this year and a double-double machine.

The problem is that I have seen this movie before and the ending sucks. Every year we come into the MWC tournament and play much worse than expected and all kinds of excuses are offered on why and how the next game will be so much better. Jimmer and Jackson were awful yesterday and we made TCU look really good. Jimmer was shooting like he wanted 50 and Jackson couldn't hit anything.



When we lose tonight to UNM there will be another set of excuses but from my perspective it will just show that as great of a coach that Rose is, he still doesn't know how to prep his team for tourney time. If we win tonight then this team is as mentally tough as they have shown all year.



Based on what I saw yesterday we lose by 8.

Yeah, this game will clearly tell us what the team will do in the big dance. If we roll over again like last time then we are obviously not going anywhere. But if we see some fire and emotion and the boys pull out the W then it might be safe to say we'll be okay without BD. I'm a bit of a doubter right now but I would love to be wrong today.
