BYUtv HD

New to the boards. Hoping someone can help with a question regarding BYUtv in HD. I just signed up with DISH which has the BYUtv but doesn't appear to be HD. Will the sports games be in HD. Is BYUtv offered in HD only by some providers? The DISH customer service I talked to didn't have a clue.

BYUtv is shot and available in HD, but it is up to your service provider to pick up the HD option. So, yeah.....we're back to "call your service provider and tell them you want ___________" again.

From what I gather satellite/cable companies have bandwidth restrictions that limit the number of HD channels they can provide to their subscribers. This forces them to choose which channels they will provide in HD and which they will broadcast in SD (even when an HD feed is available). So even though BYUTV provides an HD broadcast (and for free, I hear), a lot of satellite/cable providers don't choose to utilize it because they view BYUTV as mostly a "talking heads" channel that really doesn't need HD to be enjoyed. Right now, if your service provider doesn't provide BYUTV in HD the only two options I know of are to 1) Live in Utah where BYUTV is broadcast over the air in HD or 2) Access BYUTV (for free) online at byutv.org.

or 3) bombard DishNetwork with requests to provide it in HD.

I like option 3, anyone else with dish please join the petition for hd

I would expect the same results as calling dish asking for the Mtn.

At least this means DirecTV will probably add it. Thank goodness.

One other option is Byt tv is in HD online. You can go online and an sign up for an account. If you have a laptop with an HDMI output (like mine does) it is a simple matter to plug that into an HDMI port on your HD tv and watch the game in HD that way. a little more of a pain, but more effective than calling your sattelite company and expecting results.

That is my plans...although is online 720 or is it 1080?...Also a lot of the games(football) this year are on ESPN which is HD. I have a great connection at home for streaming (15M down) so I hook the laptop up all the time to the HDMI on the TV 8)
