Final MWC POW for the season...

Gordon registered back-to-back double-doubles while helping the Lobos to wins over No. 3 BYU and Air Force last week. In an 82-64 road win against the Cougars, the San Jose, Calif., native scored 15 points and grabbed 16 rebounds while adding two steals. Gordon followed that performance with 13 points, 10 rebounds, three blocked shots and one steal in a 66-61 victory over the Falcons. For the week, Gordon was 9-of-18 (.500) from the field and 10-of-14 (.714) from the free throw line.

All you need for POW in the MWC is to win both games, beat BYU and average 14 points, and 13 rebounds for the week.

It's been a standard practice this year to award POW or co-POWs to players who were on teams that won both games.

Exactly SpiffCoug. If you look back, if BYU had a week where they didn't lose, they had a POW in most of them. If if wasn't Jimmer, it was Jackson.

Then they started doing co-POW because Jimmer was winning it too often.

If you were a conference that had one of your teams beat a top 10 team, and probably the best team in your conference, and they didn't lose any other games that week, why wouldn't you pick them as the POW. I know there is some bias from the MWC, but the POW process has been pretty consistent for several years now.

I think with Jimmer scoring 71 points for the week, regardless of the loss, showed he still came to play. Is the award best player of the week or best player from the most successful team of the week???



Clearly Jimmer was still the best player last week. But all is forgiven now that he's been given POY honors.

The MWC (and other conferences as well) have been about rewarding winners.

Yeah, since the inception of the MWC.

How about some consideration for Jimmer's 33 points scored in spite of how this conference allowed him to be beaten up/busted in the chops like no other player has had to endure all season? Could Gordon have accomplished that? Would Gordon have ever been abused to the level necessary to be in the position to duplicate that?
