Interesting dichotomy between BYU and SDSU

Now even San Diego's newspaper is turning on SDSU. The article illustrates how wide the moral gap is between BYU and SDSU

At San Diego State University, students showed up for a home men's basketball game vs. Brigham Young University dressed as Mormon missionaries ---- and carrying some pretty inflammatory and hate-filled signs. School officials responded to this behavior by telling this newspaper after the game that they were proud of how restrained and creative the students were.



When asked point-blank if they would accept students dressing along Jewish or black stereotypes if SDSU played a Jewish or historically black college, campus officials declined to comment.

After talking about Davies dismissal:

That a private, religiously owned university such as BYU would have different expectations of its students than a public university is to be expected; that the chasm between the sense of right and wrong could be so wide between the two campuses is disconcerting for those of us with connections to SDSU.

SDSU school officials' reaction to how their student act was pretty surprising to me. I guess you can't expect much class from a student section when their school officials are also bigots

This is exactly the openness and tolerance you find at EVERY left-wing institution.

That was a refreshing article from anyone connected to SDSU. The fact that there is so much bigotry from them starts with the school itself. Years ago, late 80s or early 90s, I think, before every game, and sometimes , after, the SDSU AD took some kind of nasty shot at BYU. Of couurse, the players acted the same way (ala. :utard:s now with the great lead from K Whit). That was a really sad time in the rivalry, cushioned, of course by the fact that we usually stomped all over them in both sports.

There was one comment by a reader that said that the author took the school's no comment when asked if similar stereotype reinformence of a Jewish or black college to mean tacit approval of reinforcing Mormon stereotypes to be tacit approval.



The reader disagreed with that kind of analysis. But it is tacit approval. If you WILL comment on students to tone down the Mormon mockery but then not comment on other types of mockery, you are in fact condoning that behavior.



They are in essence approving certain kinds of behavior and by not commenting on other potential behavior they are attempting to avoid why this kind is ok but the other would not be.



SDSU has no principles. A principle here that could be applied, is let's not make a mockery of any of our opposing schools nore their fans.

I liked the article because the author never tried to say that SDSU should be or act like BYU because there are clear differences between the schools, i.e. they are a state run school and we are a private church run school. There clearly will be differences, not only in student body but in administration. However, for some reason the LDS church does not qualify as a 'protected group' with other religions or minorities in this schools administrations mind. Their 'no comment' on what would be done if the student body acted the way they did towards other groups is in fact an admission that they don't view the LDS faith or its members with the same respect or dignity they view said other groups. It's as clear as day and I am glad someone finally asked the question I have wanted to ask for so long: Why is it okay to do this to mormons but not to jews?

Great article, from a non-mormon, that strikes the line between these two schools all the clearer. Only one more week of having to put up with the MWC before they sink into even more obscurity. Peace out, bigots.

OK, I can't stand it any longer. I agree the article is good, but can you please correct the spelling? The word is "dichotomy". The former teacher in me is coming out.
