CougarbibThe HC Office gets criticized for moving too fast and then moving too slow. People quibble over wording on announcements. And innocent people get muckraked. I guess that is the instant information age we live in.
I just wanted to add, without referencing any individuals, because I have not even looked at the football forum for weeks until today and reading disheartening rumors, and I know absolutely nothing about them.
But re timing. I refer to the Jim McMahon dilemna. BYU got accused of waiting too long for waiting until after the season ended. In reality, I would guess that they waited until the Semester ended, which happened to coincide and provided a window to take action without drawing much attention to it - probably in the interest of the student athlete. But I don't want to start that debate here.
I just know from personal experience that the HC Office will sometimes try to drag out their investigations and committee reviews a bit to accomodate the completion of a semester depending on the nature and circumstances of the offense.
But, to dismiss from a team or even school mid-semester happens when it is also mid-season and the University would not want to be self-serving by putting it off to win a game or championship. Procrastination of that nature puts the school and Church in a bad light. The Jim McMahon actions and timing are still rattling around.
For the record - I love Jim McMahon. I continue to hope that time will heal all wounds there.
I hope nothing big is up with any of our football players. Whatever is up will likely become clear at the end of the semester but possibly not until fall camp. I trust BYU will act in the best interest of the student athlete in every situation to the best of their ability - taking an eternal perspective in each case. You can be assured that prayers are involved in decision making.
