All the News on Davies - Positive??

I am sure you are all amazed how much press and pub this story is getting. There are two things that amaze me the most.



1. It seems like 80% of the reaction is positive from the press. Who would have thought that?



2. I have read a great deal of the comments to the articles. I am impressed with our LDS community who have responded in number and quality in those comments. Usually I cringe when the first sentence states, I am LDS...... But this time it has been very good.



Thanks to all of you have spent the time to post a comment. I am proud to be associated with so many of my faith that were smart, articulate, and faithful.

And way to be a man Davies. We all support you.

I was thinking the same thing driving to meetings today.



The national media could have had a field day with this: backward Mormons, archaic moral ideals, unrealistic expectations, etc. However, I haven't seen much national press that didn't invoke a "don't you wish the world were more like BYU when it comes to honoring your values" kind of feeling.



I heard it from Dan Patrick today while trying to find a traffic report. I saw it on NBC's Today Show this morning. Chad Forde wrote a great piece on ESPN yesterday.



About a year ago I heard Colin Cowherd pay BYU a huge compliment by saying "when it comes to my daughter, I am pro-Mormon, I am pro-BYU. She's going to college in Provo." (paraphrased, but pretty close). It's a sentiment I've heard repeated often in the past week by national media types. Not to plug him, 'cause mostly I don't like his show, but Cowherd has some LDS relative. Ex-Sis-in-law maybe??? He talked about not being able to go to the wedding ceremony in the LDS temple. So it seems he has a pretty good perspective on gospel standards. He said when he thinks about his kids being out at night, he wonders "what's my son doing" and "what's happening to my daughter". That's why he wants her at BYU. Interesting take.



Bottom line, the media message has been way more positive than I expected. The response in defense of the HC by members has been astounding (and to your point, cgharring, astoundingly articulate).

The only people who are negative about this right now are a few local tools, err Journalists, and some fans.

Only negatives I have heard with this is from local media guys or people who think the HC department is run by a bunch of Nazi's.



It has been incredible the positive as a whole from the national media. I think based off the crap we have seen with college sports, does Cam Newton ring a bell, the media finds it refreshing a university would stand up for morals and principles instead of money.
