Time For Rose to Step Up

The wheels have come off the bus, we saw that last night. It's time for Rose to rally his team and put those wheels back on.



Bit concerned that Anderson didn't know whether he'd be starting until game time. I'm sure Rose has his hands full, but he needs to settle his team down, come up with a game plan and put a spear in the ground his team can rally around.



For the entire season he's been riding the leadership of Jimmer and Jax, time for him to shoulder it. His team needs it.



I know he's probably just as shell-shocked as the rest of them, but it's his job to have the team mentally and physically ready and they were not yesterday. Stand up for your guys Rose. They're getting beaten up and no one is stepping in their corner.

There could be an argument the other direction about not giving him too much time to think about it and get himself all worked up or down. Anderson did not play any better or worse than he usually plays from what I saw. He does not seem like the kind of guy who is on the bench behind a great player but ready to step up when given the opportunity. Abouo, Rogers, and KC would be the guys who played worse than they normally play last night at a time when you hoped they would step it up. Add in Jackson and Noah who have been starters most of the season who also under played relative to their norm and all you have left is Jimmer who scored 33 or so somehow while playing way below his norm the first half. Rose is in a tough spot - kind of like playing the schedule we played early last year in football with a QB who was not yet ready. Hopefully someone will get ready to step up - several someones relative to last night's performance by Saturday or we are going to lose to Wyoming at home. Anytime BYU is missing wide open shots - we are in trouble the rest of the way.

I had not thought about it that way either. Great point. Hopefully the team as a whole can right this thing.

I would expect Jimmer, Jackson, and Noah to step up and provide leadership for this team from here on out. Rose is a great coach and last night would have been difficult for any coach to deal with and to win, even at home. I think some of our fans are a bit rash in their reaction to what happened, given the timing, circumstances, and expectations.

Let me see if I understand your point correctly. You are concerned that Coach Rose - who has coached, motivated, worked with and counseled with Anderson for months, who has as a better insight into Anderson's basketball psyche than anyone (especially you and me) - did not handle Anderson's game day preparation correctly. Right?



Ya, right....Assuming neither of you know Anderson very well, exactly how would you have handled it? For that matter, assuming that neither of you know everyone on the team very well, and given that before the game the entire team and coaching staff was entering new, unexplored psychological territory, exactly what would you have done for the team and why?

Dsmith1212, please see the post made by Cougarbib2 and my response that followed the quote that you responded to here. Yes, an initial knee jerk reaction to normal circumstances would be concern. Then before you said anything cougarbib suggested that maybe Rose knew Anderson's psyche and I conceded the point as one I had not thought of. So yes, it was a knee jerk initial thought but upon further thought and discussion, I have since changed my initial thought. You did read the posts after the one you quoted right?

This game reminded me a lot of the Hawaii football game , right after Ty was awarded the Hiesman Trophy. Nobody was able to play to theie normal level, because they were all distracted by something outside the game at hand. Rose will get the ship righted, and they are not through winning. They will certainly miss Davies, but can win games (even big ones) without him.

Big game tomorrow and Wyoming will smell blood - hopefully it will turn out to be Cowboy blood.

If the cougars get back on the right track against Wyoming tomorrow, then that will guarantee them the top seed in the MWC tournament next week. That would give them a second "adjustment" game on Thursday (Wyoming again or TCU) before having to prove that the adjustment has been good enough. The following game on Friday would probably either be Colorado State or New Mexico, so the adjustments will need to have "taken" by then or all bets are off. I want to believe they'll make the appropriate adjustments and get back on track.
