The demise of the BYU basketball program.



Here are some things that will lead to this. First, Dave Rose will leave if he gets a decent offer. Doesn't even have to be a great offer. I'm not going to put all the blame on Davies for that. The fact that he can lose the best team that he will probably ever have at BYU because of a mistake made by a player that isn't criminal in nature, and right or wrong, is done by roughly 90% of kids in that age group.



Second reason he leaves: the move to a lower conference. It has been widely reported that Rose has not been happy with this move since jump. This will have a negative impact on recruiting, strength of schedule and rpi.



Third: just lost the center piece of the team for the next two years for an undetermined amount of time.



After Rose leaves, recruiting will drop off, and it will be nearly impossible for BYU to find and keep good coaches.



And the worst part of this is that Rose could end up at a Pac 12 school in the same state working with the same recruiting area, getting mostly the same type of kids, without the restrictions.

Speaking of 90%, I disagree with about 90% of what you just wrote.

OK you and few others continue to say that Rose is unhappy about the move to WCC. That it's been widely reported. Where has this been reported? I have not seen this anywhere,what I have seen is Dave has been very excited about the move. Please shows us where this has been reported.

I don't think its much of an overreaction. It could easily end up shaking out this way.

Really, no one has heard or seen reports about Rose being dissatisfied with the news about moving to the WCC? Apparantly no one was listening to the local radio or reading the local papers or blogs from the reporters that are on the BYU beat the day BYU announced independence. Or they only heard the part about being able to watch games on ESPN (still waiting to see how that's going to work out by the way).



This isn't an overreaction to one game. This is a concern that I've had for quite some time. This is not my first post with regard to Rose possibly leaving. He's not a "BYU" guy. He has not said that he wasn't going to go anywhere. This is the perfect storm that would lead to him leave.



I expect BYU to win Saturday, although I wouldn't be shocked if they lost. I expect them to win next Thursday, but I again wouldn't be shocked to see them lose there. But I honestly don't see them beating Colorado State on Friday. CSU has been the toughest team not named UNM to play in the conference this year for BYU, and both those games were with Davies, and they were games that he contributed a lot.



This team is beyond frustrated. They had zero composure last night. Jackson started kicking chairs after he got called for that foul towards the end of the game. I feel really awful for Jackson and Jimmer and Rose. I feel sorry for Davies, not because he's off the team, but because everyone knows what he did.



I think this incident has the potential to affect the basketball team like the rape allegations had on the football team. Just another thing to add to the negative recruiting that other schools will use.

And having said all this, I'm still going to be a huge BYU fan for life, but I will not be able to allow myself to get into another season as much as this one again. I will always fear the collapse that always seems to come.

While I can't argue that Rose might leave, I can sure argue the bolded point. So, if I have never said I wouldn't cheat on my wife does that mean I'm going to simply because I never said I wouldn't? I went to the extreme to prove my point. You can't read into Coach Rose not saying he's not going anywhere and take it mean that he is. First off, if you do that you create a double negative in my sentence structure. B, there are a whole lot of people in this world who have "never said they're not" a lot of things so can we assume that they are the opposite because of the silence on the matter? Of course not.



I am sure that you've had these feelings or doubts for a long time but they surely came out at full force because of the loss. I am hopeful this team will figure it out and get better. Did they take a significant step back because of what happened with Brandon? Of course. But that doesn't mean the demise of the basketball program. While Coach Rose may not be happy with the move the WCC as it is a smaller conference, he can't honestly be upset about playing on ESPN and BYUTV EVERY FREAKING GAME instead of the Mtn, who by the way seemed elated with the unm win.



Anyway, I'm still a cougar and always will be a cougar, no matter what individuals associated with the sports teams do or don't do. Time for cougar nation to stand up and be counted and support those we have left.
