Hearing rumors on how it went down....

Just heard a rumor from a source I trust with good inside contacts. Given me scoop on things before. So here goes:

Supposedly, this issue in question was one that Davies had with a female student at BYU. I do not know particulars. But the info is that Brandon had dealt with it with his bishop, and was continuing to deal with it. Not sure if the girl was as well. So things were handled as they are within the Church on all other issues--with your priesthood leader. That is, until a roommate of the girl in question went to the HC office and reported the incident--long after the fact. And it blew up from there.

IF this is true, it is the reason the HC, or aspects of it, need to be revised. Total BS. BYU holier than thou students. That is just not right.

I had heard dui from someone close to eammon brennan, so honestly, I'm clueless as to the real story.

the story above is the exact same story for several HC casualties in years; the squeaky wheel gets the grease,

If it was DUI, there would be a public police record, and someone from the media would have found it.

Honestly, if it is a DUI, the punishment makes sense. But if not, I don;t even know. I almost hope it is, not for Davies sake, but selfishly. I know that is wrong.

If it's a DUI, I am 100% behind suspending him immediately, and then throwing him in jail. DUI punishments should be akin to assault with a deadly weapon, and should carry similar punishments to gun charges. But I really don't think it's DUI - or like I said, we'd know about it by now, due to public arrest records.

If its the situation you described, then I am disgusted, revolted, and dismayed. If your story is true, then the girl's roommate and the entire HC office are nothing but a bunch of :utard: s.

I heard DUI from a football player, but I figured if it was a DUI it would be pretty easy to verify. So who knows. Also I'm fairly confident you don't get suspended for the season immediately for having sex, unless she is pregnant. But I could be mistaken.

I looked up Utah County arrest records and found nothing. So if it is DUI, it did not go down in Happy Valley.

Until something is actually confirmed...this thread has nowhere to go but down...

I don't understand why the type of violation of "team and university rules" has to be disclosed. It seems like at other universities we hear that player "x" was suspended for a "violation of team rules" or a "violation of university policies," and there is no further disclosure.

The Honor Code office should be an investigative department and should not have access to media or permission to make any public declarations. All honor code investigative findings should be reported to the university spokesperson, and they should be tersely declared, as they are at other schools, for the protection of any victims, including and especially the violator.

This is where the procedure is the problem and not the HC itself. If the individuals were workings out with their church leaders, then why did the roommate have to blab? Talking about a vindictive she-devil.

Even if the roommate did blab, there should be a full and complete investigation before there is any public disclosure of any type. There should never be a knee-jerk reaction, even if a press outlet comes around asking questions in the hypothetical case that a roommate decides to blab to the press instead of the honor code office. The purpose of the honor code should be to protect the student body collectively and the students individually, not just the public image of the university. Justice can't be done without all the information.

I don't know that the Honor Code office jumped the gun, but I thought I read somewhere that the announcement was made by the Honor Code office/university after they were notified about a potential violation by one of the local media sources. Maybe I misread the article, but I could swear that I read that somewhere.

This is why it appears strange and a bit rash. BYU itself said they just got the details the day before, and by the next day, he was removed from the team, but the investigation itself was ongoing and the university had not decided how to act in regards to his standing as a student. That just seems odd. You can still attend class, but you can not be an athlete. Why act first, before all fact finding is done? Seems to lack due process.

Again, we do not know what really happened. Just rumors. But the process of BYU does look out of whack in this case.

I suggest that the mods immediately close boards like this one. Starts with an admitted rumor. Next post a completely different rumor. And as Kiwi says, goes downhill from there. Let's at least start from facts.

If Lawboys rumor were true, I doubt that the HC office would have gone to the media. I doubt if Rose would have kicked Davies off the team. The girl's roomate couldn't have gone to the media - they wouldn't have given the story on her word. The HC office would have checked with Davies' bishop & Rose and would have found out that it was being handled and would have cooled it.

I disagree, if there's already a confession and the process of repentance is underway, that is the process that is due. If there's a significant investigation to be done, and he denies anyof the allegations, then you could be right. In short, we don't know enough of the process taken in this to say that he lacked any processes due to him....

I agree, it does lack due process, especially for athletes. People complain about favoritism for athletes in a very public way (the young lady that wrote to the news paper), but if this were just a regular student, no one would care. I lived in BYU public housing for a while in provo and at least 2 of my roomates were sleeping with their girlfriends on a regular basis but none of them ever got kicked out of school. If they had been football or basketball players, the crap would have hit the fan in a very public way. I don't know what Brandon did, but I don't think the punishment fits the crime. The only reason he is off the team is because the HC office doesn't want the apearance of favoritism, which in the long run becomes anti favoritism and IMO is hypocritical.

Alphaleonis,

I respect your opinion, but the fact is, that people are going to talk about this no matter what. And they are. National media, local media, fans across the nation. You can not stop people from talking and discussing. Better to have a conversation here where we can post and discuss things than to act like everything is peachy, because it is not. This is a huge story, crazy in that due to timing and circumstance, even bigger than Harvey Unga. And people will speculate until facts come out--for better or worse. remember when the Unga story went down, all the talk? And it was on the money, too.

I am anxious to hear the BYU coach comments after the game tonight, and to hear the official BYU release on this. I just wish they had waited to act until they had made a final determination, which they clearly have yet to do.

Except for all the national media and even local media keeps from speculating. I just feel there is better things to talk about rather than to speculate about.

All media are focusing on 2 aspects on the HC: being chaste, and no alcohol. I think that is absolutely speculation, and no different from this. Especially when they have BYU grads call in to discuss the HC and what they thing warrants expulsion and what does not. Look at Harmon's tweets about how radio programs are discussing the no premarital sex policy. Absolutely they are speculating. The focus is on those 2 areas, as it logically would be.

Perhaps you did not like the details of the story I was given. But it names no names, other than BD who is already in the spotlight. All I can say is that my source is connected.
