Jimmer's Shooting Problems?

Several comments have been made about Jimmer not having any great shooting nights lately. I decided to look up some statistics. On the surface, it looks like his field goal percentage is a little low.

However, if you look at this from a points per possesion where Jimmer shot the ball or got free throws (assuming one possession for every two free throws) you have 82 points in 81 possessions or 1.01 points for every possession. That is the equivalent of Davies shooting 50% from the paint. Remember this is with 20 no calls per night. I don't see that as a real big problem.

It should also be pointed out that Jimmer's assists have gone up recently as well.

I think his fewer shots made is somehow correlated with amount of posters and national press that puts Jimmer as POY and #1 seed.

We just beat the #4 team in the country who hasn't been beaten by anyone else and beat them at their crib becasue Jimmer keeps firing away and opponenets have to keep doubling and trippling and that always leaves one or two guys wide open. Jimmer's assists went up because his teammates made the wide open shots. We don't need to worry too much unless his teammates start missing wide open shots again. When that happens we are in trouble unless the fouls on Jimmer are getting called.

Offensive success is not just about fg%. He produces a pace and flow to the offense that keeps the defense guessing and often on their heels. He conducts Rose's offense almost to perfection. It's run and gun form the half-court as well as trying to get out on fast breaks.

So, yes, he is not as hot %-wise but teammates have stepped up and he has included them more.

NOW, as teams try to stop stopping JImmer and stay home more on their guy--because they have been hitting shots--Jimmer's percentage will go up a little, bc he will have fewer dbls and triples coming at him.

He's getting mugged and his teammates are getting wide open jumpers as a result.



Triple teams will do that to your shooting % and a good passer (like Jimmer has been) will get it to his teammates so that their % will increase dramatically; and it has.



There's nothing more to it, other than a few shots that he's forcing a little for the POY race.



Seriously, nothing to see here; as long as he finds his open teammates when he can. Try shooting while 3 guys are hanging on you.

Jimmer is shooting mid-40's on the year, which is Kobe-esque, and he also has the ball in his hands a lot to create for his team, which is also Kobe-esque. Jimmer's shooting the last few games has been down, but shooting goes in spurts. The key is that the rest of the team is stepping up and staying involved, and not just standing around. The supporting cast has been really good of late. Really good.
