ESPN.com Poll - Does BYU Deserve #1 Seed

ESPN.com has a new poll question under the College Basketball heading (look at the left margin down the poll page) http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/polls



I voted yes.



Results were about 50-50 but there were only around 1,500 total votes when I voted.



The Bracket Matrix of 75 Bracket Projections has BYU as the first #2: http://bracketproject.50webs.com/matrix.htm. Only 10 of the 75 are dated February 28 and only 17 are dated February 27. Most of the others will refresh today. So I assume we will be a solid #1 seed in the majority of the projections after today - probably the third #1 seed projected after Ohio State and Kansas.

Interesting question: If half the country continues to believe BYU does not deserve a #1 seed, is it possible BYU could be a number one, do well and still be considered a Cinderella during the run?

I had to laugh: while the total number of votes is still pretty low, the state in strongest opposition to BYU getting a #1 seed? NEVADA.

And the majority of the "No" States are those of the SEC, Pac 10(12), Big Ten(12) and Big 12(10).

Like SEC or PAC 10 states know anything about good basketball this year.

Probably to a certain extent. Jimmer is a fairy tale type name. BYU isn't a powerhouse name. We've kind of come out of nowhere this year.

Isn't a part of being a Cinderella team mean, coming from no where, who are these guys, all odds were against them type of thing?



You can't say that about Jimmer and BYU this year.



Plus we'll get a high enough seed to show we are good enough and earned it.

It's funny how no matter how high they climb they will always be discounted.



BYU hasn't played anybody. SDSU will kill them. After the W...well SDSU will get them at home because they can't handle "The Show." After we handle "The Show"...well even if BYU wins out they don't deserve a 1 seed. After we get a 1 seed...well BYU is the most undeserving 1 seed ever and will bow out early. After BYU makes the final 4...well one lucky year doesn't mean anything, once Jimmer leaves BYU will be nothing. After BYU gets back to the tourney as a 4 seed next year...well BYU doesn't have Jimmer so they have no chance........yeah, I think we all know how this goes.

Unfortunately for Nevada, not enough residents to maintain their negativity. I saw them at 53% no, and texas had 54% no. Didn't check all states though.

Lets face it. BYU was hoping to win the first round game last year for the first time in how many years? I can understand why people are still debating it despite when you look at the numbers we are clearly deserving.



I think if byu wins out and goes to the conference championship game they will get a number one seed. if they win out they certainly will. there is no dominant team this year and byu has built a case that it deserves it possibly more then any other team. 6 and 0 against top 25 teams. have been number one in rpi a large part of the season and have only lost to ucla, a top the pac10 and a let down game against new mexico.



that and we have the jimmer who is locking up the poy.

Pac 10(12) states have come around - these also are large LDS population states. SEC states are turning towards Blue. Big 12(10 and Big Ten (12) states are diehards. They don't see any way an outlander can be in their club.

Lowest YES, NC, and Kansas

Yes votes are now 52% in favor of BYU.

Still another week of play, plus the conference tourneys. If BYU wins out, the are a rock solid #1 seed. Questions is, of the #1 seeds, which are they? If they win out until the MWC tounrey final, outside shot at a #1. Lose before that, and a #2 it is. But how nice is it to be debating whether a #1 or a #2, instead of a #5 or a #6. Great season.

Utah is 94% yes.



I'll just assume that the other 6% doesn't know how to spell "yes" and "no" and just chose the wrong button.

bring it on. If BYU gets screwed in seeding either because of Sunday play, anti-west bias or a combination of those things, it'll just fuel our fire. Honestly, I hope BYU doesn't get a 1 seed. I wanna see Jimmer, Jackson and the boys with a chip on their shoulder.

Virginia is the least BYU supporting state so far with only 42% of 831 votes supporting BYU. :angry:

Look at the new poll at ESPN.com. Asking which team among Ohio State, Kansas, Duke, Pitt and BYU should be #1. Ohio State leads, followed by Kansas, followed by BYU at 19%.
