Oppertunity lost

If seems to me that the Mountain West Conference seems have let a great opportunity slip away. Fredette (nations leading scorer!) and Leonard (20 double doubles!) are 2 of the best basketball players in all the NCAA. I'll leave it to some of you who know better than I do as to any other conference that has 2 better players. Also Emery is one of the nations premier defenders. One might make a case for an all MWC team that could take on any other conference's best. Rose and Fisher are 2 of the best coaches and would make that team all the more difficult to beat.



In football they could have had BYU, TCU, BSU and Utah. That would have moved it/us into a position of one of the 2 or 3 best in the nation instead of somewhere around 5 or 6.



There's much I don't know but it is sad to me that the schools and conference officials couldn't have kept it together.

This is what happens when you repeatedly lie to, and steal from the best team in your conference.



We are tired of being leached upon by liars and thieves, and good for BYU for it. I like for BYU to show that it has some self-esteem.

well it was our own fault.



apparently we greedily wanted some of the money we made the conference and weren't humble or charitable enough to give it away to new mexico and wyoming. And apparently we wanted our fans to actually be able to see our home games.



We were SO demanding.

Utah is the reason the MWC melted down. If Utah stayed put, BYU would have stayed put out of loyalty to that relationship, and TCU would have had no need to go because AQ status was most likely around the corner.



BYU going independent was a reaction to Utah chasing the money.



The MTN contract was horrible and unfortunately - very long term. Otherwise - maybe the money part could have been fixed with a better contract with better exposure and tiered revenue sharing.



We are on a new road. Hopefully we will start getting decent home and away scheduling and basketball competition won't fall off too much. Exposure and revenue have the potential and liklihood of being much better if we don't over schedule and start losing too often.

And Thus We See, what comes of lying and cheating!!!

Personally I feel that BYU has taken a calculated risk. The enormous opportunity that is now available to BYU far outweighs AQ status.

speaking of opportunity lost.. I wonder if Michael Loyd has kept a close watch on BYU's season. Sucks to be the guy that left just before BYU bball exploded nationally.

Without the horrible TV contract, perhaps non of this would have happened, dispite the lousy leadership from Thompson, etc. I think the nearly complete unavailability of BYU sports to the fans (and to national exposure) was not just the major reason for BYU's decision, but almost the whole reason.

My buddy and I had this conversation at lunch a couple weeks ago. "If only..." is a horrible concept, because it invokes some kind of regret, (of which I have none in this topic) so I won't go there.



However, if defenders are exhausted after chasing Jimmer, imagine what they'd be grabbing if when Jimmer got spelled, they had to deal with MLJr. His style was complimentary to Jimmer's. A guard line that includes Jimmer/Jackson/Charles/KC/Lloyd would have been scary... plus a "small lineup" that throws Rogers in with any of those 4 could likely have run any team we faced thus far off the court.



Fantasy is nice. I'm totally stoked about reality! 8) 8) 8)

BYU should offer every MWC basketball team a Provo visit and neutral game return. Promising each school they'll be on national TV (espn/byutv) every time, and BYU should aim to play in arena's as close as possible to the mwc pawprint just to stick it to them.





Oh wait, BYU has more class then me, and tries to go through the front door to avoid back stabbing. As for me, I'm not so perfect.
