This Win IS Different

This is a great, great win, but what makes this one different to me is that this was a total TEAM win. Jimmer was Jimmer, and I never want to take him for granted and the refs sucked, but the TEAM played lights out....Abou and Hartsock were outstanding. Emery shut down Gay and hit double digits in points and when Rogers came in for Davies we expanded our lead. And we did this all in a very hostile environment.....I don't want to go overboard but today BYU arrived on the national front as a great TEAM not just a team with some good players and Jimmer, but a great TEAM...hats off to them all

Another nice win.

Which is why i think Rose should be MWC coach of the year.

The nation just saw that Jimmer is great AND our guys will knock down open shots and defend.



We weren't without deficiences. Davies played poorly most of the game, Anderson got hurt and we didn't get a ton of calls (though I thought it was well balanced) and we still dominated at their place.



This wasn't just about SDSU not being able to beat the zone, this was about BYU beating a long and athletic team from beginning to end and sent a message to the nation that even if you have Tapley, Gay, and Leonard defending Jimmer (no one has 3 defenders that good outside of the big east and big 12) you can double team all you want and BYU will make you pay for it.



There's no doubt that this is the biggest conference game in BYU history and maybe the biggest win ever, particularly considering the spotlight...

I agree---every player this year is better than last--Jimmer, Emery, Abou, Davies, and Hartsock. Some of that is to be expected, but not at the rate we have seen and collectively...Rose gets credit for that too

I don't think he gets the award, but he certainly deserves it.

I hope that the NCAA selection committee noticed that what made this win different is that this was an upset of a top-10 team in an environment every bit as hostile, if not more so than Virginia Tech and Colorado, since it seems that those upsets are getting top billing on ESPN right now.



I hope we see BYU getting the reward it deserves for consistently playing better on the road than at home this year, especially in big games (and I hope we don't play down to the competition in the first round of the NCAA tourney since it likely won't be a big game).

I hope that the NCAA selection committee noticed that what made this win different is that this was an upset of a top-5 team in an environment every bit as hostile, if not more so than Virginia Tech and Colorado, since it seems that those upsets are getting top billing on ESPN right now.

I actually thought the refs got almost if not every charge/blocking foul wrong. At least twice Davies had position, and Jimmer definitely did and all were blocking fouls. Then on the other end, there were at least two charges by SDSU players that were called blocks on the Cougs. I am so grateful that the Cougs didn't let the Aztecs get close enough to let the refs steal this one!

Agreed. Every call involving a potiential charge went against us, with complete disregard to the merit, or the reality of the situation. It was pure bias. You got it right, the Cougs simply stole this one from the refs, by virtue of outstanding play.

I'm surprised that every 3 pointer BYU made wasn't ruled a 2 pointer for some bogus foot on the line claim. BYU would have had 1 point less than SDSU had that been the case and would have lost.



Yes, this is tongue in cheek, but not by much.

What has me also very excited is the prospects for the next few years. Yes we will miss Jimmer but look at what the supporting cast can do. Looks to me that 30 win seasons will be rather routine! That's bound to attract more big name recruits and as long as we can keep Rose the beat goes on. And why would Rose want to leave now that he has things in place and running so well?!?!

That is my biggest fear - that we get bracketed up w/ a team we should handle easily and somehow we let down - and get beat by a lesser team in the 1st round!! Uggghhhhh! I hope the BYU Cougs this year are mature enough to stay focused & not "let down." I think Coach Rose will do his part & make sure that does not happen.

True - true!! Just hope BYU opens the check-book and keeps him happy - or some other University will lure him away with the almighty $$$$. Hope not.

This win was different, absolutely! Dont underestimate the loss of two of the best backcourt players in the nation. We will do well and make it back to the tourney, but we will miss these two like we missed Unga and Hall. We are really seeing their talents and their Sr experience in a Dave Rose offense designed for these two to succeed and in a very synergistic way. NO way we get 30 pre-tourney wins again. Once in a quarter century happening, maybe a whole century. Has BYU ever had 30 pre-tourney wins?
