Our team next year... going to surprise people

I've been extremely impressed with how active and confident Charles Abouo and Stephen Rogers have been as of late. It's not easy to score consistently when you're not the emphasis of the offense. (jimmer, then jax, then brandon, then noah)



Both can rebound really well, both are long and can defend (one can't be pushed around at all, the other can but is really long and fools people into playing into his length rather than away from it)



This is still an NCAA tourney team in my opinion.



I honestly think our starting 5 will be:



Martineau PG (what choice do we have?) until Carlino is ready

(this team would have been off the hook if Michael Loyd hadn't pissed away his scholarship, but I like the scholarship for Carlino over the long term)

It's really nice that Carlino comes to us after getting to learn the system for a year.



Abouo SG - makes too much sense if he's confident and shooting like he has of late; he can defend any 2 in the country -- we just can't afford to not have him and Rogers on the floor at the same time with this group

Rogers - SF - he was made for this position at BYU and he's really impressive when he's on... I think he'll be a 18-20 point a game guy by his senior year

Noah - PF - consistent defender, not strong but smart, active, and a talented shot blocker - if he improve his shot as much as he has this year, he'll be dangerous

Brandon - C - If he makes the same strides from freshman to soph as soph to junior - he's going to be a 20/10 guy in the paint



Collinsworth should be ready to be a major contributor as the 4,5 guy off the bench then Winder and Harrison will be nice to have to spell our guys, but keep the pace up; Anderson will be counted on to defend when we get in foul trouble.

Great points Craig. Although I think Coach Rose will have a hard time keeping CC out of the starting line up. TOugh battle at the four. Although If Davies gets into foul trouble he will move Noah to the 5 and CC to the 4.

NOt sure Noah has improved his shot. He has added the 3 to his arsenal which has helped clear out the lane for Brandon and added some nice points, but I think his mid-range shot has suffered over last year. Not sure the stats exist dividing mid-range vs 3 percentages.

BUt to the point, I agree, next year's team will be better than many have feared.

2 years ago Jimmer wasn't much of a player yet and we still made the tourney. People often make the mistake of thinking that just because the star is leaving that we lose everything. For a one and done team, sure but Dave Rose has built a "system" that fosters high success every season. I have no doubt that we continue to be a tourney team year after year.

Adding another facet is the switch to the WCC. I watched a bit of last nights Gonzaga vs St. Mary's game with Gonzaga winning in OT. They are fighting for their 11th straight conference championship. It will be fun to jump into that party and see these guys jump into the new league with a bang!

Given the athleticism of Carlino (Dec. 15th)/Winder and the athletic DeMarcus Harrison/shooting guard - they will get more time as possible starters/heavy reserve time than Martineau. Carlino and Harrison are both just as athletic and skilled as KC has played this year - and KC was a starter until he suffered the concussion. Abouo and Rogers have still not been consistent game to game and I give KC the edge with these guys for playing time. It's a given that Noah and Davies will be starters as their numbers are consistent for the year as are their minutes.

S - KCollinsworth/BU - Harrison

S - Abouo/BU - Rogers

S - Harstock/BU - CCollinsworth

S - Davies/BU - J Anderson

Kyle's gonna be in Russia so probably not much of a contribution next year.

There's a lot of basketball to play before December 15 and that load will not fall on Winder at the point before then, it's Martineaus jobs to lose



KC wont' be with us for 2 years and Harrison won't be ready to start over Abouo, nor should he



Rogers has shown flashes that makes me believe he's the top scorer on this team very soon... he was a 20+ juco all america for a reason

Look at the Yoots after Van Horn. The next season they beat two #1 seeds on the way to the NC game and had a talented UK team down by 10 at the half.

I don't know, I could see CC starting over Noah. Kind of like that better.



Also, Carlino has been practicing with the team all year, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him start. If I remember correctly, one of the reasons he transferred over was because he wouldn't get the playing time he wanted at UCLA.

Carlino can't play until halfway through the season per his transfer.



CC hasnt' done anything to supplant Hartsock...
