Thugs deserve hugs too. And scholarships, apparently.

Court records filed over recent months detail how football player Lorenzo Jones and basketball player Virgil Taylor entered the university with criminal histories and remained part of their respective teams even though their academic work and conduct were called into question.

The court filings raise particular questions about Jones, a defensive lineman who came to TCU in 2005 and played for the Horned Frogs until he was dismissed from the team two weeks before the alleged assault for missing meetings and practices.



The records detail how, just weeks before enrolling at the university, Jones pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault in nearby McKinney, his hometown, but never completed the requirements of his probation, including attending an anger management class.

That makes a lot of sense especially when you think about that kid that was all world back in '07, then he came back for his senior season and he turned out to be a wacko!!!! I think his name was Tommy Blake. Dude was a guaranteed first round pick if he goes as a junior, but he came back for his senior season and then lost his mind. So that makes a lot of sense to me, TCU gets all the good athletes but have criminal backgrounds or are wacko's so then no other big school will risk a scholarship. Then they just turn a blind eye to what they are doing. That sounds a lot like Yewtah back in '01 when they let the Kaufusi kid start at left tackle for them, and then they next day he was arrested. Hmmmm..... I'm sure the Utah staff knew nothing about his problems. I'm certain this isn't the case for all players but it sure does make me feel better to believe this is going on with all players and that is the only reason that they have the talent to beat us in football.

I'd buy it, except one dude played hoops, and TCU is still a bottom feeder in hoops. And those dudes they refer to made minimal football impact.



Just a couple of bad eggs that a school gave a shot to. Schools are correct to give the benefit of the doubt to the kid and try to educate them in a university setting, even if they are athletes. Kids makes mistakes. Like Shiloah Te'o and other BYU hoopsters, ya know. No need to paint with a broad brush.

But utah doesn't turn a blind eye. They actually "punish" the player by suspending him during the "off-season" and then when spring ball comes around they are allowed to play because they served a suspension in between post-season and spring ball.



Or if knife fights/dui's happen after spring practice, they serve a suspension before fall ball starts.

Wow, old, old news. When a school tries to recruit kids, many of whom come from bad areas and backgrounds, a few bad apples can come out of the mix. Texas and Florida have dozens of arrests on a regular basis. Mark Sanchez was arrested for rape prior to going to USC.



Some reform, some don't.
