CSU Positives/Negatives

Holy rebounds batman. We almost doubled them in rebounds. Davies had more rebounds than points plus Davies hasn't been fouling out as of late. Our shooting percentage for this game sucked: I think we shot like 38% from the field and 21% from 3-pt. Our rebounds saved our trash

Shooting wasn't good and we couldn't push the lead and close the game out early when we were up 14.



We played tough, Davies had a GREAT double-double (no tomatoes, grilled onions), Jimmer found a way to get it done on a tough night both shooting and getting smacked around (again!), and role players again played well (really liked Abouo's play tonight, just gotta stay out of foul trouble).

A win is a win. CSU came to battle and pulled it off. Love Davies and Abouo's play as of late. We'll need them in the next few weeks.



We're turning the ball way too much as of late. Glad Jimmer got his 34, but he's coughing the ball up a lot.

I echo the positives...



exactly 1 billion turnovers was a negative.



90% of CSU's points came from within 5 feet of the hoop.



Anderson... 3 minutes, and 2 fouls. I don't know what it is with this guy. You don't need to equal your minutes played on a nightly basis with fouls.

"How did you know that Anderson checked into the game?" - Because he just got a foul called on him.

I can cut the Jimmer some slack. with that calf bruise it has to be difficult to raise for your jumpshot. He likely isn't getting the height he is used to and that likely throws his shot off. Can't explain his turnovers, except for the ones that were no call fouls. We won and that's fine for me.

CSU coach explained this quite well. Jimmer is the reason rebounds were up and fouls were so disproportionate. CSU cose to extend theri defense chasing Jimmer around the perimiter and dogging him inside which they do not normally do. The calculated risk leaves them vulnerable to offensive rebounds and committing more fouls. The other option is to play Jimmer straight up and give him 49 points.

It is obvious that opponents have found the one chink in Fredette's armor in that when he drives, don't slap at him or front him, just slap at the ball and he's forgotten his church hallway training and is allowing the ball to be slapped away. That approach to opponents game vs. JF has been obviously increasing and they are having sufficient success, but still cannot completely shut down his game because he has a whole quiver full of various deadly arrows to shoot.



I didn't get to watch the game last night as I was up at the hospital with two different extended family members in the same hospital, but when I listed to Greg Wrubell's post game interview of Coach Rose where he asks him what is up with Jimmer and his game as it has seemed to decrease a bit. This was without seeing the game at all and hearing first that he had scored 34 points and we had won the game. I thought, "What problem with his game? How do you have a problem with your game and score 34 points and your team beats a decent team by 8?"

I guess another positive would be that we can still win a game and score A LOT of points even when we suck shooting the ball.

I don't know if anyone else noticed Charles 3-point shot. It has looked so much better in the last few games, less jerky and more fluid. He missed some last night but they were right on line, just a touch strong. I'm sure that is related to just more practice time shooting them and feeling more comfortable in his place on this team. For BYU to win saturday, he's going to have to play one of his best games defensively (guarding Kawhi) and offensively (spreading the floor). I think his and Jackson's energy is contagious and helps the bigs to play harder defensively.

Negatives: too many turnovers. Some were related to no calls so there is some inflation of the numbers but they played too sloppy for my taste. It was just one game and this team seems to perform better away from the MC (exception: SDSU here) so I'm not terribly concerned.

Here's hoping the BYU that played SDSU well, @TCU, etc. shows up on saturday.

Yeah same thing with Rogers. They were in and out, all of his shots. Those will drop more often then they go out.

You guys remember how we had that thread where we talked about what an awful rebounder Kyle Collinsworth was and how much better Abouo and Rogers were at rebounding?



Rebounds & Minutes vs CSU:

Rogers: 2 rebs & 12 min

Abouo: 2 rebs & 17 min

KC: 8 rebs & 22 min



Yeah, that was a pretty funny thread.

Some of the turnovers were offensive fouls, which inflated the number last night a little bit.



CSU provides a lot of matchup problems for BYU. UNM may be the only other team in the conference that provides as many match-up issues for BYU. I think coach Miles does a fantastic job with this team, and they should be in the NCAA tournament this year. They almost beat SDSU twice, and have played BYU very well both times as well.

I missed the first half of the game. BYU had a rare off night shooting the ball. Was that because of CSU's pressure or because the team just wasn't dropping shots? I don't know.



All I know is that CSU was hungry for a signature win so they could get their ticket punched to the NCAAs and pulled out all the stops.



BYU is still just too good for them even when play well below 100%.



Of course, BYU will need to shoot a better percentage if they are going to beat SDSU.



If Emery can shut down Gay again and Abouo can slow down Leonard, even a poor night's shooting by the Coogs should be enough to beat SDSU.

Positive: if we bring that kind of rebounding effort to SDSU, I like our chances.

I was at the game and Jimmer simply looked exhausted. Alot of his shots that were falling earlier in the season just aren't falling. I think he is just getting worn out.



gay on sdsu tooks three whole days off this week because he was so exhausted. guys are just getting tired.

Another positive, Jimmer got through the game without getting more injured.

I think the calf injury/bruise affected Jimmer's shot more than anything. It's tough to get consistent elevation when one of your primary jumping muscles is extremely sore.
