Jazz has traded Williams to the Nets

Breaking news.

Good move. Avoid a melogate next year. we all know he was leaving. this way they get more for him. hopefully they tank now and get a another lottery pick along with the other picks they get.



there is also more room for additional trades at this point.



I have a source close to oconnor who said this was coming last week. during the bull halftime spat between deron and jerry, deron shoved greg miller when he got in between them.



since that point oconnor has been looking.



deron is a spoiled baby. i like this trade. it doesn't make us better but is damage control going into next year.

After getting over the shock, I think I am OK with this. Between Watson & Harris, PG should be OK this year and we add an up and cming favors. Hopefully we get a good pick in the draft (didn't help us last year) plus one for the future.

I heard they are trying to get Jimmer in the draft.

Well they will probably have a shot at Jimmer becuase they will probably have two lottery pick in this upcoming draft. Their own and New Jersey's. the talent pooll may be thin if its looks like a lockout is going to happen though.



that said they will probably have a lottery pick the next year as well that they got from jersey via golden state. golden state is currently about where the nets are, around 5th worst team in the league.



the jazz were smart about this. things had soured with the baby williams and they knew they were going to lose him. why not get as much as they could from him. they get a number three pick with lots of upside, an allstar point guard and two first round lottery picks. not too shabby.



now they need to get lucky and draft well.

wow. I just heard about this. I always thought it was tough to get people to come to SLC but Sloan was always the mitigating factor. Who WOULDN"T want to basque in Jerry's greatness?

The Jazz do not have their own first round pick this year. Their only first round pick is the New Jersey pick, and it is un-protected. The Golden State Pick is 2012 protected through 7. Also protected through 7 in 2013, and through 6 2014, unprotected 2015.



They do have another pick this year if The Grizzlies's pick is later than 16 (which it won't be).

And there was much rejoicing by Jazz fans.



I for one am happy to be rid of him. I would have taken the trade if it were for nothing more than a ham sandwich.

I'd be surprised to see Williams accomplish much after this. Did the Nets lock Williams up long term?





Jazz played this pretty well. Should be painful end to the season though. ouch.

There was no extension to the contract. He can't sign an extension until next year, and then he'll be subject to the next CBA. The thing is, New Jersey may have just given up a former all-star (Harris), top 3 pick who is 6'10" (Favors) and two future first round picks for a player that may only play a total of a half of season for them, if the NBA locks out for the entire year. Williams will end up in LA (Clippers) or New York or Orlando after a stop in New Jersey.

I for one hope that he never wins another game in his career. He's more dishonest than Fisher.

I'll wait till Deron dons a Lakers uniform before I put him that low on my list of unfavorite players.



But this whole thing stinks. The NBA in general stinks.

If Deron basically told the Jazz 18 months ahead of time that he wasn't resigning, then he was quite honest. And that honesty allowed the Jazz to trade him before their hand was forced like Denver's.

Also, it is the Jazz's own negligence that forced Deron's hand in the first place. Deron is a winner, and the Jazz haven't been serious contenders for the finals since 1995, almost 20 years ago.



Amazing that he can go to the Nets and get them winning, and I'd just be happy if we looked as good as the Nets (pre-Deron trade.) The Jazz screwed the pooch! They made the "best" out of a losing situation. They dumped the gf, before she could dump them. They didn't get fired, they quit before they could get fired!
