Polls.

First, do the polls come out Monday ? or because it is Pez day later ?

Second, with 5/4 of the 7/6 teams ahead of us losing where do you see is going ?



If Duke wins.

#6 Purdue

#7 BYU

#8 Pitt



Sadly because we played TCU I don't see us jumping anyone, and withs wins vs 10 & 2 I think we get jumped by 5, yes FIVE loss Purdue.

that would be a typical scenario to be jumped by a 5 loss team when we really have no bad losses (and only 2) and two wins over top 10 teams (SDSU & AZ). I don't really care where they put us, but would love to see the miracle of SDSU becoming #1 so we can beat them at their place when they're #1. Either way, the BYU-SDSU will be the biggest game of the week in college BBall as long as BYU doesn't lose on Wed.

I don't see Purdue jumping us. They are four spots behind us, so they will be amply rewarded for besting the Buckeyes without passing us up.

If Duke wins...

Teams don't "jump" in the polls the way they do in football.... purdue won't jump a higher ranked and winning BYU team just because they won a big game at home. BYU will have to lose for Purdue to jump them this season. Texas, Pitt and Ohio State on the other hand have few enough losses to jump BYU if they win out.

IF duke loses tonight, there is a HIGH chance of that.



Also Purdue had TWO wins, vs the top 10 THIS WEEK, 8,9,10 also lost, so they are prime to jump 4+ spots, kinda sucks.

I see us at 6, if somehow Texas moves behind us, I'd say 5 but I see no way Ohio St. falls behind us, and that isn't my inner buckeye coming out. Who does Duke play by the way?

Go Yellow Jackets. We had a better chance to make a move had Jimmer been hot and reminded the entire country what a stud he is. Now we have to depend on voters who did not see the game researching and reading that Jimmer was double and triple teamedd and his contribution was to keep enough offensive pressure in spite of that to keep Rogers and others wide open for shots.



But, even then, it is hard to argue with the BYU record and RPI. And SDSU - WoW. They are the only 1-loss team left. How long can the polls keep ignoring that. And who was the only team to beat SDSU? WHile others have beaten teams that used to be in the top 2 or 3, we beat the team that should be #1 next week - but won't be.



If you tally the top 40 or so teams getting votes - BYU beat SDSU, Arizona, Utah State, St. Marys, UNLV(twice), Colorado State, UTEP, and someone I am forgetting about probably and has lost only to UCLA (Anaheim) who is now getting votes, and New Mexico in the Pitt after blowing a 15 point lead in the 2nd half.



BYU is peaking right now - playing much better than around the time when we lost to UCLA and even noticeably better than around the time we lost to New Mexico.



Too many teams get credit for Big East wins - leaving the debate as to whether the Big East is loaded with great teams this year - or maybe weak with no great teams.



It seems we got no injuries Saturday and everyone is rested. I have been wondering about the status of our tallest player's shoulder. We may need a couple of fouls to give or draw, rebounds, stops or blocked shots out of him this week.

I think had we beat NM in the pit we could have been going for the #1 spot right now....

Notre Dame will fall behind us in the poll where they were ahead of us. I do not think Purdue will jump us although stranger things have happened. THere is a slight chance that Pitt drops behind us. I don't think we get lucky enough to jump Texas, but we might. Kansas lost early in the week and then had a blowout win - so KU probably won't drop behnd us. The Buckeyes probably will not drop behind us either.



So I am predicting 6 in both polls. We deserve even better. But a few of these teams have weakened their grip enough that one more loss and they will drop behind us unless we lose to SDSU. If we lose to SDSU, I do not think we will drop much as only Purdue should be that hot on our tails. We will still be Top 10 if we split next week.



So let's surprise everyone again and sweep this week. Doing so would move us ahead of SDSU and probably ahead of a couple of others. We are a week away from being in the top 5 if we sweep. If we win out through the tourney - Top3 and a 1-seed as long as SDSU does not lose to anyone but us and AZ stays Top 10.

I think that we'll hold tight at 7 this week. I don't see the pollsters punishing Pitt for that one point loss on the road to a tough team. Here's what I think we'll see, depending of course on the outcome of the duke game.

And it wouldn't shock me if purdue did jump us and we dropped to 8. They did have two very impressive wins this week.

Bib, I would respectfully disagree. BYU is not peaking right now. We have been riding in the valley (not to be confused with playing horribly) and are poised to start climbing. We have had some much needed players emerge in Abouo and Rogers and if they keep playing well and Jimmer comes out of the valley (such as it is) this team could find a high again and go into SDSU and the tourney really strong.

Semantics. I am not sure we do disagree. I said peaking - not peaked. For me that means that we are playing much better than when we lost our two games. It means specifically that Jimmer will do what Jimmer does and if he continues to get double and triple teamed and whacked around without getting fouls called, it will be point production in the low to high twenties and everyone else will be more open - but now they are shooting better when open. If opponents back off Jimmer and play straight up - Jimmer will light it up. Jimmer is and will be fine. Emery seems healthy again now. Davies seems as solid as he was in the last 2/3 of the UCLA game and most of the time since. Hartsock seemed back to his normal contribution. The rotation of Charles, Kyle, and Stephen has risen to a new level and I agree will likely continue to improve with more experience and confidence from that experience. They will look better against weaker teams and not as good against great teams, but Kyle doesn't look so lost against good defense now, Charles is not so tentative and / or tight at times, and Stephen has found his shot and has some abilty to create shots as well. All three are strong on defense and provide rebounding boost. Even Logan Magnusson and Anderson are contributing at times. CSU is pretty decent. Hopefully the rotating threesome will be continuing to contribute at the recent level or better. Saturday is for all of the marbles most likely. The young players will be tested by that defense. I hope they find the zenith by Saturday and maintain it through the Big Dance.



Bottom line - we probably agree that this team would have more ways to attack UCLA today than they did in December and Jackson who was injured and shot poorly then is playing great now. Davies who emerged late in the first half of the UCLA game would play that way 4 quarters now. Jimmer would play as well if he has a bad day like that day and most likely better. Hartsock would probably shoot better than he did that day. Our bigs are less likely to get in foul trouble and we have more options to go to if they do. And the small forward position would be dramatically better.

Agreed. If charles can better neutralize Leonard, like he did in the 2nd half, and Jax keep DJ Gay incheck, I like our chances to keep this game close and pull it out. And, if Rogers can keep finding his game, particularly going to the hole against sdsu, I like our chances even more.

Would even love it if we stay at 7/8 and sdsu goes up a few and we get to play enen more as the "perceived" underdog. Its going to be a great game.
