What are Logan's chances in the NFL?

I just read Logan has hired an agent and is training for the NFL.



The dude has heart, and you can't blame him for trying. Especially since he can at least say his Junior year he was #1 in defense since so many people tried to throw on him.



But I'm just imagining a Larry Fitzgerald lining up in front of Logan and licking their chops. I don't think it would even be close. They'd eat him alive over the top. I love the guys' heart, but you'd throw it that way every time in the pros.

I don't think he makes it in the NFL, but he might as well try. You get one shot at it in life, might as well take it.

The kid has an immense heart and plays bigger than his size. Guys like that always have a shot. And even if the NFL does not work, there is always the CFL. Or he could end up as a GA at BYU in 2012.

Logan has been my favorite defensive player the last several years (I even argued with some dummy about it in the stands at LES and he ended up leaving), and though I don't think he's has a great shot at making an NFL roster, I gave him the 5-95%, his heart alone is worth that.

No question he will never be the top cover guy on a defense, but there is plenty of need for guys who play with his kind of heart for the weak side or smaller receivers. I don't know how much of a chance he has, but if you can go for it, do it!

Logan's heart is surely not the question, as has been stated. It's the physics of the equation.



That said, I remember the first few series against Oklahoma last year I was amazed at his ability to tackle in the open field. Something we hadn't seen much of from our corners in a while.

How do you think he would do against Austin Collie in the slot? I say 5-10% he makes a scout team and then plays a couple years. You don't have to be the best at what you do to be successful in life. Thank goodness for that or we all be hosed.

I would say that his chances are slim to none and slim just left the building. Don't get me wrong, I loved him at BYU and I would take 10 more just like him but in the NFL, there are guys 5 inches taller that are just as fast with just as good of cover skills. He is simply too small.

You underestimate Logan, and overestimate size for corners in the NFL. You do realize that most NFL corners are under 6'0, right? In fact, Sean Smith from Utah at 6'3" is the second tallest corner in the league and most are about 5'10.5" or so. It is a position where size is not the biggest factor at all, and speed and quickness are the key factors. Logan has decent speed and great quickness. Plus he tackles great for a corner.

I would not sell him short. Too many have already made that mistake. So I go with 5.1% chance. I hope he has a future at BYU when he is done playing even if it starts out in administration or elsewhere geting coaching experience. Grad Assist would be nice for him if it is available.

I put zero, becuase I want him, his passion for BYU as a GA as soon as possible.

I have heard that he's not very close to finishing his undergrad work (I have no idea if that is accurate or not, though) so he may not be able to be a grad asst for awhile even if he doesn't make it in the NFL.

Bottom Line Summary:

Brandon Harris is an exceptionally quick cornerback whose athletic ability should allow him to thrive in man coverage in the NFL. He has just decent size, but he plays with a surprisingly-physical, aggressive style. He doesn't stand out on tape because he doesn't make a lot of impact plays. But he is one of the best cover corners in the nation.



Draft Projection: Harris, who has quite a bit of experience despite being an underclassman, should draw interest in the late-first round to the early-to-mid second.



Rashad Carmichael

Height: 5’11

Weight: 185

School: Virginia Tech

40 time: sub 4.40



Strengths



Carmichael is fast. Very fast. He will have no problems keeping up with the straight line speed of the NFL whether he’s playing in zone or man coverage. He has excellent closing speed and has a knack for making a play on the football when it’s in the air. He has soft hands in the air, and catches the ball at its highest point, and makes it difficult for the opposing wide receiver to make a play. He’s a bit of a ball hog, which is good when it comes to playing cornerback. Carmichael has very quick feet, and good change of direction. He moves with excellent fluidity and makes it look effortless covering downfield.



Weaknesses



Carmichael sometimes struggles to turn and look for the ball, sometimes getting him in trouble with interference penalties. He could stand to add at least 5-7 pounds, and be more aggressive when tackling. He won’t make many tackles in the open field, despite his speed, as he lacks great fundamentals when tackling. He will struggle against more physical wide receivers, like Anquan Boldin, who will fight for the ball. He’s not very strong and could get bullied, especially in the red zone.



Draft Projection



Carmichael is most likely a mid second to early third round pick. His speed will make it hard to pass him up as he will most likely post a sub 4.40 time at the 2011 NFL Combine.

I followed the Ufl (the new pro league) season this year and the LV team who won it all has a corner about logan's height or possibly shorter. He was amazing to watch because he was all over the place, making tackles, breaking up passes and getting interceptions. Just like Logan, teams would pick on him due to his size (some of these receivers looked riduiculous next to him, it seemed like a foot taller) and he would usually come out on top. I believe he was the league's defense player of the year. So I think Logan has a chance, but like this guy, he may not get it in the NFL due to his size.

Logan's heart and huge arms tackling ability and fierceness and intelligence have room in the NFL...his height will single handedly keep him out I bet.





Which is a great thing, since he could help BYU coaching/support wise with his cousin and other players.

1 in a million. But then, Logan is a one in a million type of dude.

Isn't Logan 5-6 ?



Realistically, he has no chance. In a world where Max Hall goes undrafted because he is 3 inches too short for ideal height, someone that is a full foot under the tallest receiver in the NFL has no chance, from an "investment" type of stance.



I hope to see him back here ASAP. I think he is perfect for our program, and I love his tenacity. He might be able to impress some people and get on a scout team somewhere for a year or two. If he can do that, that is a good paycheck, and good experience to put on a COACHING RESUME.



I really want to see him here asap as a GA, and then who knows.

Agreed. I gave Logan 5-95%, based on heart & desire. I don't think he gets in as a DB or CB (too much size differential with big NFL receivers). But, they are always looking for solid Special Teams guys, and 2nd & 3rd string guys because of injuries. I think he makes it in one of those roles. Look - Max Hall made it as an un-drafted "walk-on." You never know.

In a league that puts so much stock in "measurables", I just don't see him making a roster in the NFL. Maybe the CFL.



That said, I'd LOVE to see him come back to BYU as a GA, and gradually work his way into the DB coach's roll. The kid has heart - and he can help instill some of his "heart" in the DB's he coaches. From what I've seen and heard about Logan, he could make an excellent coach, and be an outstanding asset to the program (especially as a minority, non-LDS coach)
