Scheduling Concerns

Don't get me wrong, an away (neutral, I guess) game vs TCU is much better than an away game to LA Tech. However, BYU is getting no return games to Provo or neutral site games in western cities (Phoenix, San Diego, Las Vegas-with a new stadium, San Francisco, Denver). This is concerning to me.



Some series I'd like to see:



Navy, 4 game series-home and home, neutral in San Diego and Philly/Baltimore

Army, 4 game series-home and home, neutral in Denver and the Cotton Bowl or San Antonio (big army/military groups in those states).

Add 2 games to the Notre Dame deal-One on the west coast (maybe Seattle or Arizona) and one in Chicago or New York.

Ohio State 4 game series-Home and home, Phoenix and Cleveland/Cincinnati

Wisconsin-home and home, Las Vegas (with new stadium) and Milwaukee (baseball field).

USC 3 game series-home and home, Vegas

Either ASU or UA 3 game series-home and home, Phoenix (Cardinals stadium) (I know that's in their state, but there is a large LDS population down there.)

How about a BYU-Utah game in the new stadium that is probably going to be built in Los Angeles? Fan base for both teams in the area, huge recruiting benefits, a good destination game for both sets of fans.

6 game series with AFA-2 home, 2 away, 1 in Denver, 1 in Dallas (Cotton Bowl).



BYU needs to start getting something on the back end of these deals, or we're going to be hurting. Starting to feel like we're ESPN's toy and not their partner.

BYU is getting something out of the one-and-done neutral games--$1.75MM for the game against TCU, and a HUGE exposure upgrade---we just went from playing a game against LaTech on BYUTV to a game against a name-opponent in TCU that will be airing on ESPN2.



If BYU can trade their porridge for these kinds of feasts, take it every day of the week. I could understand umbrage if we dropped a home game for a neutral one-and-done, but I don't think this is anywhere near a "the sky is falling" move. We have moved from a lesser opponent to a better one, from a smaller venue to a larger venue, from farther from Provo to closer than Provo, from less money to more money, from less BYU fans to far more BYU fans. I just don't see much to complain about this move.

I don't like that its on Friday along with two of our other games. Friday night games are no good. I think (aside from preparation time) Thursday games are better than Friday.

I agree look at the away schedules in 2012 and 2014. six and four games already scheduled. BYU doesn't need the money, they need wins against quality opponents and those are much easier to come by at home. This is basically a one and done home game for TCU. Surely these guys could have gotten a return game in Provo. They could have played another game in Dallas or Fort Worth in 2013 and gotten two games in Provo which would have been a 2 for 1 against a big east team. These guys need to take a negotiating course.

You forget that ESPN has the incentive to get games in Provo for BYU so they can actually broadcast them. Not like they can get more than 1 neutral game a year, anyway. Plus, the purpose cited for going INDY was to get more exposure for the program. Tell me, will BYU get more exposure playing a game vs. TCU at Jerry's World, or an early November game at LTech? I do not recall BYU stating the goal of going Indy being to get better home games, although we all want that. This game fits the model given perfectly. Give the other scheduling some time.

Another important factor is it's not at TCU's stadium, which means NO mtn.!!!!



TCU could have gotten another true home game, but a neutral game means they are sticking it to the MWC and the mtn., likely in response to the MWC's switch the BSU/TCU game from home for TCU to home for BSU.



Further, we don't know what BYU gets in return for helping TCU out, on top of the money and "home" status at Jerry's Castle.



I am with other who point out that its a serious upgrade over La Tech. And with all the LDS members in Texas, I really expect BYU to put more fans in the stands than TCU.



It's an opportunity to show why BYU made the right decision to go independent.

Slow down boys, BYU has had only a few months to put together its first ever independent schedule. Give them a little credit, and give them time, they will start putting together "perfect" schedules. Remember virtually everybody already had their 2011, 2012 schedules pretty much put together, so getting the schedule we have, it pretty good work in my view.



And if BYU can go to Texas and beat TCU, last year's #2 ranked team, it does wonders for BYU. It doesn't matter that Dalton and a few other stars are gone, it's close to beating the defending national champion. And if Jake Heaps and company are going to be recognized as a national power, they must go on the road and beat quality opponents--TCU is a quality opponent.

For a first year independent schedule, I think this is a great move. Some good home games, some great away games. Games on ESPN. Nothing on the Mtn. What could be better?

Concerned? Nope. Just play the game and keep the W's coming.
