BYU Lacrosse 2011

The Cougars will kick off the season Friday the 18th with a game @ Loyola Marymount (they pummeled BSU a week ago, but I don't really count that massacre as a game), followed by a game on Saturday @ Cal (who just knocked off top-10 Oregon 10-2), and then a game on Monday @ Claremont. I see the Cougars sweeping this weekend with their toughest test coming against a much improved Golden Bears team on Saturday. However, the Cougars have been slowly backsliding since a coaching change two seasons ago and we'll see if Cal can pull of a second top-10 upset in as many weeks.

Schmoe, believe it or not, I love these updates from you. Keep em coming. I don't have time to research BYU Lacrosse, but enjoy getting caught up. Helps that you're a guy who understands Lacrosse as well.

Cougars win their first game of the weekend vs. Loyola Marymount with a final score of 16-10. Tomorrow comes the big one for the Cougs, faceoff is at noon mountain time @ Cal.



(On a side note, UVU won their first game of the weekend in Vegas, and plays Western Oregon, who smoked Westminster today, and UC Santa Cruz both tomorrow. UVU head coach does a great job of scheduling to respect players' beliefs, even if it does make the schedule a lot tougher.)

Schmoe, was that you twittering the lacrosse game. Good stuff buddy. Now if we could get somebody to do that every time THE JIMMER scores. Wait, they would either wear out the keys or break their thumbs doing that from having to type way too fast and so often.

BYU would shut you down. They already limit the amount of tweets media can send during games.

Sorry to disappoint, Urroner, but I am not the official tweeter of BYU lacrosse (many MCLA teams have someone who tweets all their games, but I am in no way affiliated with BYU lacrosse).

Oh. Too bad for BYU.

Cougars smack around the Cal Hippies...err...Liber...err...Progre...err...Golden Bears 15-6. Next game is on President's Day against a 1-2 Claremont, shouldn't be a difficult win for the boys in blue.

The Cougars started slow and took a 5-1 lead into halftime, then came out firing on all cylinders in the second half and netted ten unanswered goals for a final score of 15-1. Next game is at home against top ten and Canadian Simon Fraser on Friday the 26th at 5 pm. They play on the north intramural fields if anyone wants to show up and support.

The fourth ranked Cougars have a big second half at home and beat Canadian university Simon Fraser 16-8, bumping their overall record to 5-0. Next game is Friday, March 4 at home against the 8th ranked UMD (Minnesota-Duluth) Bulldogs. Game time is 7 pm if you want to come out and support the boys in blue.

Very cool, but I really have no idea what's going on with LAcrosse, other than getting the ball in the net of course.

The rules for hockey were taken from lacrosse, so just imagine its hockey on grass and most of it should make sense.

#4 BYU edges #8 Minn-Duluth 11-10. BYU led by five at one point, but lacrosse is a game of runs and UMD went on a big one to tie the game up late in the fourth. A goal by midfielder Tyler Monteath with less than a minute to go sealed the victory for the Cougs.



“One of our goals coming into the game was to be able to have four full quarters,” said BYU Head Coach Matt Schneck. “We didn’t accomplish that tonight. We had a great first half and we got into the second half and honestly I think that some of this a little reminiscent of other games in the past. We felt since we were up by 5 goals at the half that we were on the same path as our other games.”

The #4 Cougars defeated the #6 Colorado Buffs 11-7 at home today. Next game is Tuesday, the 15th, 7 pm vs. San Diego. If you can, come out and support our boys in blue.
