Historically the home team wins something like 70% of games in college basketball. The runs that the elite teams have in college basketball every year, where they win almost all of their home games and close to 90% of their road games is extremely impressive. The impressive thing about BYU and SDSU is that they are the only teams in the top ten that played more pre-conference road games then home games, and they did it by a large margin. Both played something like 12 or 13.
For comparison, Utah State rarely leaves Logan in the pre-season (Georgetown and BYU this year are the exception) unless it's for a tournament. Morrill doesn't agree to go anywhere unless a team will come back to Logan and play (Georgetown this year a RARE exception), so they end up playing weak OOC teams. They have to go to St. Mary's this weekend, I think, for bracketbusters and I'm sure Stew is pissed about that. Morrill's lack of willingness to schedule some neutral site and even road games in the pre-season is a reason I'm glad he turned the opportunity to interview at BYU down many years ago (he was still at CSU at the time I believe). On a side note, Utah has decided they will no longer play at USU or at Weber State with their move to the Pac-10. Look for Weber State to continue to go to SLC to play every year, but that USU/UoU rivalry is probably dead in both football and basketball. Interesting, because Utah was giving BYU grief for not playing USU every year in football.
