BYU's Maturity Advantage

Very enjoyable read this morning from the veteran writer Dick Harmon from the DesNews where he sets the ground at how he's admired SDSU's Coach Long for many a year and has even run through 18 hole of golf with the man. What I loved was Harmon calling a spade a spake and pulling down Longs decrepid excuse of BYU's maturity, which just replaced the former alibi of the MWC coaching fraternity that BYU's reason for winning was that our lineman held on every play. I remember vividly that explanation given by Michigan's Bo Schembeckler after our defeat of his team in the Holiday Bowl. There is apparently always something.



The best comment: “The good news for Long and other MWC coaches is they don't have to use this excuse any more. It ended last November. It will be a good and timely separation.”

If maturity was an advantage, I think there would be evidence of it like BYU playing above their recruiting. BYU consistently won in the MWC because they got the best recruits. It pretty simple.

I liked the part about having a clear path to the MWC crown, only young and immature Boise State stands in the way.

And freshmen would almost ALWAYS redshirt and only see limited action the next year. Starting lineups would be DOMINATED by redshirt juniors and seniors.

This is what always bugged me. It was always made to appear like BYU was only ever playing returned missionaries who had redshirted and were seniors and been in the program for half a decade. While our opponents ony ever played true freshman who had to enroll late and had basically just arrived on campus the day before the game.

Besides, the fact that these kids are coming to BYU and going on missions proves that they are more mature as Freshman than other team's Seniors.

Well why don't those coaches get their programs to build maturity? Lazy aholes. Require players to maintain a code of sorts, I'm so tired of getting dizzy from walking behind Tech players whose pot fumes suffocate me on the way to class.



Require your players to stop bangin/drinkin/smokin and work hard.

Why isn't the SDSU basketball coach chiming in on this with Rocky Long? Hmmm ... I guess he decided he wouldn't worry about it and put all his energy and focus into building a good program.

Greyshirt + Redshirt = Your 2 years.



And your players could benefit from all the facilities, training, work outs, maturity, speical diets and technology ...



The mission excuse is so shallow.
