Wow, the timing of all this seems really strange. They've been kind of up and down at Wyoming, but I thought they were doing pretty well for the school they are, the history they have, etc. I'm not sure what the administration and boosters are expecting when you play in the fourth best conference in the country.

Boylen should apply for the job.

There are some rumors that Rice is on Wyoming's list.

It was expected that Heath would get the heave.



I doubt Rice would get or want the Wyoming gig. Iv'e heard interest on UNLV's part to hire him as they aren't too happy with Kruger's underperforming.

Frankly, there are some schools that I can't imagine a decent coach ever considering--and Wyoming is one of them: let's see, let me count the ways...

1. The weather in Laramie is awful

2. Recruiting is a tough as it gets, trying to get players to go there

3. The stadium would make a good high school stadium

4. The fans are awful

5. You can't get there from here

6. They can't pay you anything up there

7. And good assistant coaches don't want to go there either

8. The "Cowboy" club is, well, a bunch of cowboys

9. The national fan base is non-existent

10. Who would live in Laramie by choice?

Biggest reason not to want to coach at Wyoming is that there really are no in state recruits. Jaycee Carroll was the best player from Wyoming in probably a generation and he was either going to Utah State or BYU from the jump. You are 3rd or 4th for players in Denver, which has only really produced one great player in a generation as well (Chauncey Billups).



The only way to be successful there is to heavily recruit JC's and then get lucky with a few 4 year guys. That is rarely a winning combination anywhere, but it's the only chance you have in Wyoming.

I'm thinking that Marcus Bailey is someone the athletic dept has to consider hiring. Someone started a facebook less than one week ago who stated that he would no longer hold season tickets unless Marcus was at the helm. The page almost has 1500 members and it has really only been around for a few days. Then Suddenly Schroyer is gone.



Coincidence? who knows.



I saw it mentioned that Carrol was the best player to come out of Wyoming, but I think Marcus Bailey would have played in the NBA. I'm pretty sure he was in the top 50 players projected to go in the draft until his knee(s) gave out. He ended up going on a mission to Germany and his family is amazing. He'd be an instant fan favorite at Wyoming, and would know how to sell Wyoming as he is from Cheyenne. Could be a good deal for the pokes.



I talked with his mom once about away games in the MWC and she told me that the ute fans were the worst. HA, I got a kick out of that of course.

Also, anyone see the Pitt West Virginia game? Talk about the B Least looking out for their 4th ranked Pitt. Absolute BS pathetic reffing. It felt like a mwc tourney game, or any game of any sport involving BYU and the mwc. Wow.

I know he wants to be a HC and I'd like it for him as he has been great for BYU, but I think it's a trap to go to that hell-hole on the western plains and think that you'll routinely be able to get sufficient talent there.



Dave Rice needs to wait for a better opportunity. It will come, but I think he'll be better off waiting. Besides, I like his 7th grader's son shooting when he was on the court during warmups a couple of games back when his Provo Jr High team was the halftime entertainment. He was hitting a lot of 3's and that's pretty good from a kid his size. ;)

Rice will be a head coach within two years, especially if BYU makes a deep run in the tourney. Also, look for one of the big six conference schools to come after Rose as well after this season. They'll use the WCC being a downgrade from the MWC (a move that Rose was reportedly not happy about) and throw a ton of money at him.

This is the only drawback to a deep run in the nccaa tourney. we may lose rose.
