Rogers PT

Changing the tempo of the game with 12 and 8. Does this mean we can plan on Rogers getting more playing time, and not getting yanked after missing one shot?

I like Rogers so what I say next isn't meant to bash on him.



Rogers is a role player. When his role is needed he'll play more minutes. It seems like he's settled down lately and has a feel for where he can contribute which will also help with his minutes, but I don't think he's going to get a huge jump in minutes.



Remember, BYU has only lost 2 games and has played the toughest schedule I can remember- If it's not broke, don't fix it.

Great point. Do you think he'll be a role player his whole career or will he be the scorer they brought him in to be?

I'd imagine that next year he'll be leaned on pretty heavily for point production and hopefully he's ready to shoulder the load. He's been a great spark at times this year for BYU.

My understanding when they added Rogers was that they hoped he would be an answer to losing JT or even Haws. I haven't looked at any of the numbers, but for a guy in his 3rd year, it doesn't feel like he's come even close to equaling JT's contribution to the team in any of JT's years. I think he was still a good aquisition.

We need Rogers! If he can controbute like this against other opponents, we will stat to get some legitimate depth. I thought it was a very interesting line-up on saturday of Jimmer and Jax, Charles and Rogers, and Hartsock. Put davies in for hartsock and I thnk that would be a very complimentary/synergistic line-up. Of course we could get away with shorter, meaning Charles at the 4, against unlv. May not work against a taller team.

I like Rogers over KC in zone. KC doesn't get up quick enough. I think the turning point of the UNLV game occurred when Rogers came in and started getting the defensive rebounds that KC didn't seem to be able to get. Once he came in that very nearly ended the two and three tries a trip for UNLV. He seemed to be able to get to the ball quicker than KC and UNLV wasn't able to go over the top of him. I like a Zone D rotation of Jimmer, Jax, Rogers, Davies and Hartsock. Some good height to double any inside passes and for going "out" high for the long rebounds that inveriably accompany distance shots.

As for man D I think KC can handle it because he would have a person to block out and wouldn't necessarily be trying to out rebound a 6-8 forward.

Rogers is in his first year, not third.

In his first year at BYU. Not overall.

I see Rogers and Abouo getting more playing time. If Rogers can continue to rebound and hit the open shots, he'll play more. It also makes it possible for BYU to rest Jimmer a little bit. They went a stretch of about 3 minutes of clock time in the with Jimmer on the bench, and extended the lead. This works because KC can actually play the point a little bit as well.

In a tight game I would put in Charles for Hartsock. Noah is too slow on the rotations to the wing. IOW, he is our JT of last year. Charles closes very quickly and so does KC. Against good-shooting teams Noah is a liability in the zone.

Rogers is going to see a lot of time the next little bit as we need the depth with Davies not being able to stay out of foul trouble and Anderson dinging his shoulder.

Rodgers is a great player. He needs to beef up a little more. He does well in zone, but not man. Gets pushed around to easy.



If Rodgers was able to play better man defense and hold his own he would be a very very good player. I like him very much later this year deep into the tourney and next year. He will be instrumental for us.



To answer the OP: Rodgers needs to beef up just a tiny bit and keep hitting shots. He should be fine from there on.

You're both wrong. Rogers is a sophomore this season. He played only one season at Mesa Community College before coming up to BYU. He has three to play two after this season.

Didn't Rodgers redshirt at ASU prior to the Mesa? Regardless, he still has two more seasons at BYU. I could have sworn that I heard that in a game recently and was shocked because I hadn't heard it before.

LOL. You are right. Rogers has two to play two after this season--redshirted at ASU, played and MCC, and now is playing as a RS sophomore at BYU. I didn't see it on his BYU profile the first time looking at it because I didn't click the "more" option. So much for me correcting the other two, eh.

What I meant was that Rogers as in his first year at BYU - not his third. He came to BYU with three years to play three.
