check out the CC podcast where we talked about this...apparently they can only give the award to people who win BOTH games of the week.

MLS has something similar. If you score 2 or more goals in a game, you'll be POW. A few years ago, Jeff Cunningham came off the bench in the 2nd half to score the final 2 goals in a 4-0 win. So essentially his goals were meaninless. But he won POW.
