Has Jimmer Lost His Drive to Win?

For those who may not have seen this picture, the caption read:

Yeah, that was a great moment.



I loved the expression Jimmer had on his face (on TV) after the picture. It was a dagger moment, and he flashed a take-that-and-choke-on-it kind of look.

Expecting Jimmer to score 30+ a night to win is no formula for success. Especially on the road. I see losses at SDSU, perhaps in the MWC tourney, and them Sweet 16 at best. Our post guys are simply not good enough, and possibly not really that good (Davies excluded). When we play teams with great perimeter D, we are in trouble.

You're kidding right? Your logic is poor. Which do you want? Jimmer to not score 30 so our guys who are "simply not good enough" to make up the slack or "expecting Jimmer to score 30+ a night to win is no formula for success."



Throw in the fact that the formulas used this year have led to a top 10 ranking and 21-2 record and your pessimism is unfounded. We're a good team. We had one off night after three weeks of tough emotional games.

Although, the downturn started at the Pit, particularly the 2nd half. This sluggishness or whatever we want to call it is real. I am hoping today that the team has shaken this off. UNLV is down a bit this year, but we spanked and embarrassed them in Vegas and they aim to rough BYU up today. Hopefully Rose has circled the wagons--which he had to do because this team's weaknesses were being exploited. Weaknesses include one primary scorer, poor perimeter shooting defense and poorly defending penetration; as well as inconsistent interior defense. Good team? Yes. Great team--which is what we are all hoping for today--is still in the making.

I really don't think Rose has anything to do with the team struggling lately, as many are alluding. Good teams generally play average against bad teams. It happens in any/all sports. BYU just happened to be struggling (normal - not hitting shots) while playing with a stagnated tenacity (normal - not playing against a good team). Both normal things to happen. The bad news is they happened at the same time. BYU realized this was happening, and increased their intensity - if not productivity - and eeked out a win. They won't play lackluster against a good team, and for those of you saying they need to not struggle against a good team or they will lose, well duh! Got any stock advice for me! ;)



The good news is, BYU won't ever play as bad as they did against a UNLV or a WYO or a UTAH (I LOVE SAYING THAT!!!) because they (the players) won't be taking that night off mentally. Had BYU and partly Jimmer not struggled shooting, then the starters would have had the night off at the 32 min mark. Jax needs to settle down and hit shots, Noah needs to get his hands off the ball offensively unless he is wide open, and KC needs to dribble drive.



Davies was literally the only good thing going for BYU the entire length of the game. I really liked his play. He still was so-so position on defense, but at least he didn't make too many super stupid fouls and played a majority of the mins on weds. I really like him as an inside presence, and he is starting to be better defensively.
