byucougar1My boss who resides in AZ, has a son (TE/NT) who plays with Davonte Neal. Davonte is the Arizona Republic's Big Schools: 4A-5A Football Player of the Year and plays at Chaparral HS in Scottsdale, AZ. Anyway, he recently spoke with Devonte's dad, Luke Neal this weekend. Luke spoke warmly about his playing days at BYU. Apparently he enjoyed the experience very much and stays in contact with Lavell Edwards on a regular basis.
Several of the boys (Davonte/WR-DB #98 rated player in 2011, Connor Brewer/QB #50 rated player in 2011, and others) on the team are planning on attending the Y football camp this summer. Chapparal won the Class 5A-II championship game in 2009 and 2010.
While participating in the U.S. Army All-America Bowl in San Antonio, Davonte was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player at the Combine with about 500 underclassmen from all over the country. He was tested by coaches on speed, skills, agility and one-on-ones. He left the combine unsatisfied, as he was disappointed in his 4.5-second electronic time in the 40-yard dash. According to Davonte, this posted time will only motivate him and help him to improve as he believes he wasn't as focused as he should have been during all of the skill work.
Luke didn't express any thoughts about what school his son was favoring, but here's to hoping Doman, Cahoon and Company can have a very persuasive influence for this talented DB and WR this summer.
