"With the hiring of Cahoon, Mendenhall also announced the completion of his postseason evaluations and identified the coaching assignments for the 2011 season.



Brandon Doman, as previously announced, will serve as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Assistant head coach Lance Reynolds will coach tight ends, Mark Weber will continue working with the offensive line and recently hired Joe DuPaix from Navy will coach running backs and coordinate recruiting. Mendenhall will continue to oversee the defense as the coordinator with the defensive staff maintaining their previous position assignments: Steve Kaufusi, defensive line; Paul Tidwell, inside linebackers; Kelly Poppinga, outside linebackers; and Nick Howell, defensive backs. Very happy to see Cahoon come aboard. I'm hoping for, and expecting great things out of our WR.

I hope he can pass along what BYU receivers have been known for...great routes and good hands. You don't have to be the fastest kid on the field to be a great receiver at BYU. I think back to Eric Drage. They guy was not a burner, he just got open and caught everything that came his way.

I hope his experiences translate into good coaching. I hope he gets our WR's to run crisp routes...and NO DROPPED PASSES!!

I think Logan will be a GA and could help with that transition; and, we do not know how long this coaching staff will be together. I do agree that there needs to be diversity, but, just won't have it this year.

How much of a help was Coach Hill in getting "athletic" players to BYU? I actually don't know, just wonder if any of you know. Not just opinion.

Would an african american recruit rather play on a Jaime Hill coached defense or a Bronco Mendenhall coached defense? The race card is over played.

First of all rich is from ogden and he plays saftey, not corner. Until Logan and eason and bradley got here our DB's would get killed on the outside by decent WR's. It would help if Logan was on the staff but, I do not see a good future in recruiting, with the current staff, I may be wrong but that is my opinion.

Isn't Logan working on becoming a grad assistant or something like that?? I agree having Logan on staff would be sweet for multiple reasons.

Interesting mix DuPaix and Reynolds. DuPaix came from a run-heavy Navy offense and is now our running coordinator. Reynolds has made BYU Running Backs the ONLY reason we won 6 games last season. Moving him to TEs seems like an insult, but I can only hope that he takes his obviously mad skills and helps the TE catch their first TD pass in over a year. I hope DuPaix and Reynolds spend a lot of time together so that there's no hiccups between a very very key transition.



Cahoon is a home run. If he got our WR's to be even HALF as good as Cahoon is we'd see drastic improvements from last year.



And for those who are overly interested in the color of a coaches skin, keep in mind that Reynolds will likely retire in a year or two and then you can have your affirmative action requirements met.

I get into this argument from time to time with my wife... I admit, it's not a good one to have in the home but I don't care on a message board. If an opinion is not based in fact it is not a good opinion. You can't hide behind 'well, that's just my opinion' when you get cornered because your opinion has no basis or footing to stand on. BYU did not have an African-American coach on staff until 1994... did BYU have 0 African-American players before then? Leon White? Haysbert? Many many more before then, don't have time to go look up rosters...C'mon man, having diversity on the coaching staff helps recruiting, no question, but it is not the be all end all of recruiting. We have several poly coaches so I'm not really worried about it. Winning leads to good recruiting.



Good luck living under your rain cloud and I'll enjoy the sunlight that is shining on the program. I've been watching this program my entire life, didn't leave during some really crappy years and it has never had anything to do with whether or not we had a minority coach.

In all seriousness I'd like to get every race and culture on the team to help get other recruits, through the players perhaps since if they RMs they have an adapted culture anyways. But coaches can be every or no color as long as they win. Hill destroyed the culture of our team, not because he was black, but because he destroyed the culture of the team and was terminated.
