Terenn Houk WR Recruit - Impressions

Washington WR Terenn Houk, who had become good friends with Cougar QB commit Alex Kuresa, was favorably impressed about BYU before he went on his official trip there this past weekend. Apparently, after his visit, he found it better than he expected it to be.



What are the stats for this guy and how does he compare in talent to Heaps WR teammate Kasen Williams?

Kasen Williams committed to Sark & the UW Huskies!!! Bummer. BYU was not even on his radar.

OK after some research here is the 411 on Houk.



He is tall, undersize for weight, no speed, no acceleration or burst, runs poor routes, has good hands, very lazy. He was the slowest receiver at his school (not being racist but it is pretty much an all white school). He comes from Enumclaw High School, a 3A school that had a losing season and he wasn't even a leader on that team. He wasn't even a two year starter?!?! He played mostly offense and very little defense. He had no other school even looking at him more less any offers. His coach was even surprised by this and said that it just goes to show you all you have to do is get one coach to like you or in this case one player. He is not LDS.



As for comparison to Kasen Williams he is not even in the same league/category. Kasen is strong, works hard, fast, great hands, and runs great routes.



I don't know what the BYU coaches are/were thinking. This is not a diamond in the rough. With so few scholarships available this year you would have thought we have been more selective. I have to believe there are plenty of LDS receivers out there that are better players and would have been a better choice here. There has to be a better way for this recruiting process to work.

My guess is that if Houk comes on, it will be as a preferred walk-on like BYU often does. We do not have he schollie to give, but he could earn one later.

Not a troll just from the area he plays in. Have seen him play actually. Not throwing him under the bus as much as I am the coaches. He doesn't have the talent level to play at the next level. Makes me question who they are bringing in and recruiting. I am glad to see they look outside of Utah but definitely not the caliber you would think we would want. And as for the schollie he is telling everyone he got a full ride!

Difference is he truly is being recruited by BYU. That I am sure of.

I don't know who wrote the "411" on Terenn Houk and watched him play, but they obviously don't know this kid. I am also from that area and have never heard of him being termed "lazy." As far as not being a "leader" that's kind of funny when you think of the fact that he is ASB president of his school, has a 3.98 GPA and was a captain of his team. If anything, this guy leads by example. He was first team all league, all state, and is an amazing athlete. Even though his high school didn't do as well, other coaches have constantly commented on his athletic ability and frame and hands. He is almost 6'5 and although he needs to work on his speed, once his frame is built up, he will be unstoppable. Despite what you may think, he is a diamond in the rough and this will be seen if you are lucky enough to get him. By the way, BYU did offer him a full ride scholarship effective in January. Sorry, I usually don't comment but I'm from that area and the person who was writing all those derogatory comments obviously does not know this kid or the type of athlete he is. Also, I'm curious as to how he knows what the coach of his high school thinks...curious.

By the way, I find it curious that "cougarfan" who supposedly has all this "information" about Terenn Houk just so happened to become registered and start posting on February 2nd and has only commented about him. Seriously - if anyone wants to know about this kid, ask Taylor Barton or Greg Barton or any of the other coaches and/or players that know him. Over half the information that cougarfan wrote is false anyhow.

Is this a 2012 recruit or did he sign with someone on Wednesday?

I believe players do talk and usually see a lot more than any coach does. So my information came from players as well as observations of him playing when they were at camp (UPS). Anytime he screwed up he always came up "hurt". The kid may be a good kid. As for his play on the field. I am pretty sure he wasn't all state (go look up the roster online). I am glad he got a full ride offer for next year. I will be interested in seeing if BYU keeps with it all four years. I hope I am wrong it would be great to see athletes in the area starting to be seen. Even though there are better ones and more deserving.

I've also had a chance to see this kid play. The kid is a fluid, smooth athlete. Has great size and as has been previously reported could work on his speed some. This kid is very similar to Cody Hoffman in athleticism (not quite as fast, but probably has a bigger frame). If he chooses to come to byu he'll be a great pick-up. Don't be surprised if he ends up at an ivy league school though (sounds pretty lazy, right?) Anyway, I really hope he ends up coming.
